Is it real to make money on New Year's hand-made? How to make money selling Christmas toys What not to do using "velvet marketing"

  • 04.12.2021

Unprepossessing in appearance, but so dear, making the heart of everyone who was born in the USSR shrink - Christmas decorations of the era of the Soviet Union.

Today I will tell you where you can buy cheap Soviet decorations for the Christmas tree.

No, I'm not a plushkin: I don't like to collect and carefully store all junk in the apartment. But this does not apply to Christmas decorations, made in the USSR.

These old, shabby, with peeling paint and chipped necks for rusty connectors for fastening rope-looplets always evoked in me a feeling of tenderness and childish delight.

Apparently, this is due to the fact that since my birth, every New Year, it was they who hung on the Christmas tree - a variety of lurid toys.

The Christmas decorations of my childhood stayed with my parents. I went to Moscow and all my life and comfort family traditions had to be rebuilt. And I have everything, but there are no Soviet toys. And the new year is just around the corner. And I just desperately need toys for the Christmas tree! And not like they sell in Auchan, but so as in childhood.

Like those that we hung with mom, dad, brother and a dog with two cats: sparkling and slightly shabby, dull cucumbers and snow maidens on clothespins ...

And I was faced with the task of finding what I want.

And I found. I share my experience where you can cheaply buy Christmas decorations of the USSR.

As a result of my search, I got much more than I wanted ...

1. Antique online stores

First of all, of course, I got on the Internet. There are quite a lot of sites that offer Soviet Christmas decorations. Often these are the sites of antique shops. Well, the prices correspond to the status of “antiques”. For example, a comparison of the price list for an almost identical USSR Christmas tree toy of an antique store and a place that I will write about below:

2. Flea market sites

But on the Internet you can still find inexpensive toys from the times of the USSR. On all sorts of flea market sites. That is, on resources where people sell their old things from their hands.

For example, the Avito website. There is scope for nostalgia here: you can spend hours scrolling through thousands of offers and photos of vintage New Year's toys. Prices vary: from several thousand to several rubles. Query for the search "Christmas decorations of the USSR".

The cheapest I could find on Avito is 7 rubles for a toy:

The cheapest Soviet Christmas decorations that I managed to find on Avito - 7 rubles apiece

I also liked another flea market site Starina.ru, where you can also spend hours digging into what someone no longer needs and look for what you need.

3. Fairs

On the eve of the new year, there are many razvalki with New Year's paraphernalia. Here in such places, at spontaneous fairs, you can also find Soviet toys.

I found such a place in Moscow on Arbat 24. I bought myself a dog (I really wanted a dog as a symbol of the coming year), and the second one was presented to me by a good woman Olga, who sells all sorts of antique small things.

Fair prices vary. More often - high, as the same stores that can be found on the Internet rent a place.

For Christmas decorations on the Arbat, the price is from 100 rubles. Well, a few pictures with prices for example:

Someone gets a buzz from spa treatments, from acquiring valuable jewelry, food, speed, and I realized that I get complete relaxation from contemplating old things, which in the chaos of variegation are clustered in one place.

Apparently, it is for this reason that I literally fell in love with the next place, which I want to talk about in more detail.

4. Flea markets

The coolest place where you can find adequate prices and everything your heart desires is flea markets.

These markets are literally in any city. The main thing is to know the places. They are also called natural.

They are usually located near food markets. On weekends, grannies and grandpas bring out for sale what is stored in their chests.

And on New Year's Eve, exactly what I was looking for appears - old Christmas decorations.

One of the largest flea markets in Moscow is the Vernissage market in Izmailovo.

The entrance is free. Exhibits - any retro museum will be envious. Prices are different, largely depend on your ability and love to bargain - the most thrill of such places!

Christmas decorations lie mixed with old rusty scissors, a broken badminton racket, rusty pieces of iron...

Are you here for the first time? - the saleswoman addressed us with a smile. - You are so violently surprised at everything !!!

Still, there is something to be surprised at! Everything here is so unusual, bright, beautiful, albeit a little shabby with time or ... vintage ...

The hare and the cat sunk into my soul. If it wasn't for the prices, they would be mine! 25,000 - a cat, a hare, for some reason, only 20,000 rubles.

I was very surprised to see more or less in tolerable condition toys made of glass beads. At home, their parents also have them, but they are all pokotskannye so much that you can’t hang them on a Christmas tree, but you don’t raise your hand to throw them away:

Prices, as I said, are highly dependent on the ability to negotiate with the seller. To be honest, I didn’t bargain much, I didn’t have courage for it. I took a multi-colored glass bump with peeling paint (“Can’t you take it newer ?!” - Seryoga) for 50 rubles from an ancient grandmother (didn’t even want to bargain) and an astronaut for 100 rubles, which they gave for 150 and immediately agreed to sell for a hundred . I think there was every chance to take for fifty dollars.

From this place, unique in its atmosphere, I took away much more than two Christmas decorations from the times of the USSR ...

I realized one thing for myself - these toys become a kind of symbol of the connection between generations: on the Christmas tree of my children there will be toys that have passed through the hands of our entire family - my great-grandfather, grandparents, my parents, as well as mine ... Holding a multi-colored cone , my daughter will experience the same joy, the same positive emotions that we, her ancestors, also carefully hung a toy on the Christmas tree.

Although it is too early to congratulate everyone on the upcoming new year, I will say this. Be sure to make a wish on New Year's Eve and believe that it will come true!

Someone will say that this is all "nonsense". But I will tell you that until you see all this with your own eyes and try it, you will still consider the business for the new year unrealizable or unprofitable.

New Year's business in winter- a really great opportunity to work hard for 3-4 months and earn good money.

New Year's business - 6 benefits

There are a lot of advantages, here are a small part of them that come to mind:

  1. Fast payback period;
  2. Fast start;
  3. Work only 3-4 months a year;
  4. The most impulsive and thoughtless purchases are made on the eve of the new year;
  5. State enterprises and private companies are allocated decent budgets for organizing and holding New Year holidays;
  6. Participation in tender purchases (state and semi-state organizations).

TOP 30 business ideas for the New Year 2019

Business idea number 1. Packaging of sweet and corporate gifts

Minimum investment- 150,000 rubles.

Great business for the new year!

The essence of the business idea is the purchase of sweets in small wholesale lots, their packaging in specially made packaging with a New Year theme to order from customers or for retail. From a simple set of ordinary sweets with the help of colorful bags and boxes, you can make an original surprise for adults and children. The relevance of such a project is due to the popularity and versatility of gifts from confectionery for the New Year.

On the eve of the holidays, many enterprises, kindergartens and schools purchase sweet gifts, so you should take care of organizational issues in advance:

  • make a list and telephone database of future customers;
  • offer your services to potential customers;
  • rent a place for packing and storage;
  • select and train staff;
  • purchase the necessary packaging.

Having thought through all the details to the smallest detail, and having carefully worked out the target audience, you can get a good profit. After packaging, the profitability of each finished gift can increase up to 200% of the cost of the materials and sweets spent. Given the high competition, you can stand out as follows:

  • original packaging (those are only paper, but tin and even gift baskets);
  • a surprise in each gift (a board game, a coupon somewhere; a “build it yourself” toy);
  • New Year's toy;
  • etc.

Conclusion

Now you know how to make money before the New Year and what business to open in the winter. I hope this collection of ideas will help you.

If you have your own ideas, write in the comments! And also ask questions!

Seasonal business is very interesting for many entrepreneurs, primarily because it does not require big investments and has a high rate of return. Today we will consider one of the types of New Year's business, namely the trade in New Year's goods and toys.

Business Format

The best solution for selling seasonal goods is to open a retail outlet in the market or in a passage place on the street, but for the second option, you need to obtain permission from the city administration. If you work in the market, then you only need to book a place and pay for its rent.

The competition in this business is very high, but the demand is huge, so every businessman receives income and it is quite profitable to work in this direction.

Range

Let's take a look at what we mean by New Year's products and draw up a list of the main product groups.

The list of assortment of such a store may include:

  • Christmas balls and various New Year's toys
  • fairy lights
  • rain on the tree
  • artificial snow
  • festive costumes and masks
  • candles
  • confetti and various items for decorating the premises.
  • exclusive New Year's business souvenirs

The assortment is quite extensive and all these products will be in demand before the New Year.

To search for suppliers of these products, you can use the Internet or make a purchase in wholesale markets in your area.

Equipment

To trade a business selling New Year's toys and other goods from this group, you will need to buy or make stands for displaying goods on your own. For example, organize shelves for balls on the Christmas tree, and a stand for hanging rain on the Christmas tree, as well as a table for other items from the assortment of your outlet.

Advertising

It is clear that New Year's goods are, first of all, things that people buy in the market or on the street, and the best advertising can only be a bright sign and an attractive demonstration of goods, but at the same time, the Internet plays an increasingly important role in our time. As an option for this business, you can open an online store for Christmas decorations for the home and try to do search engine optimization of the site. Such a step will not take you a lot of money and time, but the effect can be quite significant, in monetary terms, especially if you work for the future. It is clear that you need to start filling and promoting the site in the summer, so that by winter it will begin to receive visitors from the search. Delivery can be carried out through postal services. Online trading is especially profitable if you sell exclusive Christmas decorations, for example, handmade ones.

What start-up capital is needed?

Everything, of course, depends on the volume of purchases and the price category of the goods. We will indicate a list of items that should be taken into account when calculating the costs of opening a business selling New Year's goods and toys.

  • Renting a place in the market - $100 - $150
  • Taxes - $150
  • Salary to the seller - $ 200
  • Initial purchase of goods - $3000 - $4000
  • Purchase of equipment - $500 - $800
  • Advertising - $50

What can be the income?

It is difficult to say whether it is profitable to engage in this business or not. If you have a good place in the market and a wide range of goods, then you will definitely sell the lion's share. products and you can earn. But if you choose the wrong place, then sales may not be high and the business will not go. To estimate how much you can earn on the sale of New Year's toys and goods, you need to know the markup on the goods.

The average markup on the sale of New Year's toys is 70% - 100%.

Based on these figures, it is already possible to carry out calculations on the profitability and payback of the business.

Conclusions. Trade in New Year's goods and toys - excellent seasonal business, with which you can make good money, especially if you choose the right place for sales.

For one copy you can get 150,000 rubles

It's time to set up a Christmas tree in the house and get an old suitcase from the mezzanine. The one where most of the year live Christmas decorations, lined with cotton wool and newspapers. Here is the balloon that we bought last year, here is the garland from the eighties, and at the bottom of the box are the oldest toys, still grandma's. We take them, hang them on the Christmas tree - and we do not suspect that collectors are killed for these balls, bunnies, bears and other lanterns. And they are ready to pay more than one thousand rubles for them.

"MK" figured out which of the toys can be of value not only for the soul, but also from a financial point of view.

What can be in a family Christmas suitcase? Toys made of plastic, glass, cardboard, foam, cotton wool, wood. Factory and homemade. On strings and on special clothespins, stands, forcing the toy to stand, and not hang on a branch. Cotton or rubber Santa Claus and Snow Maiden. Finally, accessories: tinsel, rain, garlands - from flags or electric ones ...

Least of all questions - to plastic toys. They appeared in our everyday life in the 1990s, so most likely you yourself remember how and when they appeared in the collection. To become a rarity, these toys will have to wait for another half a century. The main thing is not to rush to throw it away if they don’t like it: maybe children and grandchildren will like it.

Next - everyone's favorite glass toys: balls and figurines. They are produced from the earliest times to this day. Each glass toy is handmade: no one has yet developed a technology for stamping thin-walled glass. Both blowing and painting are individual, although the toy was made at the factory. Here it is not easy to determine the age and rarity of a toy - you need to flip through catalogs (they are also available on the Internet).

Some hunt for certain series of toys, ”collector Inna Ovsienko told MK. - For example, "Peoples of the USSR", "Pushkin's Tales". This last series, by the way, was a jubilee one - dedicated to the centenary of the poet's death, launched in 1937. She became one of the first Soviet series of glass Christmas decorations in general.

The axial date for domestic Christmas decorations is 1936. It was then that the celebration of the New Year with a traditional Christmas tree was again welcomed by the state. Throughout the 20s and early 30s, the tree (as an attribute of the old Christmas tradition) was uprooted and destroyed. Pioneers were shamed for decorating a Christmas tree in their house; the neighbors looked askance at those who took out the Christmas tree in January, so they had to do it secretly, at night ... But suddenly - they allowed it, and all Christmas tree rituals were restored. Only, of course, without angels and crosses on the branches and crown. New time - new characters.

Propaganda toys were blown out of glass,” says Ovsienko. - These are glass bead balloons, blown airships, and red glass bead stars on top of the Christmas tree ... If you have such a toy, just find out when this or that campaign was going on (for example, an airship is 1937), and the date of manufacture toys is understandable.

Post-war toys are brighter and more diverse, as well as more "childish" - without politics. Bears with and without harmonicas, geese and swans, fish and vegetables. The balls are simple and "flashlights" - those in which the garland bulbs should be reflected. Santa Claus and Snow Maiden - in assortment. But glass beads - toys made of strung beads and glass cylinders - have been fading away since the mid-1950s. Difficult, low-tech, old-fashioned and dangerous: children love to taste toys ...

The next material is cardboard covered with a layer of multi-colored foil. These toys are very old, pre-war. Such artels were produced by various artels back in the twenties, almost underground: Christmas trees, albeit secretly, were set, which means that there was a demand for toys. Take care of them - this is already a rarity! Although they do not fight, it will be a shame to give such a tooth to children or animals. Moreover, collectors sometimes pay tens of thousands of rubles for cardboard toys (as well as for pre-war glass ones).

A special story - wartime toys, - says collector Inna Ovsienko. - At the Moscow plant "Caliber" then they launched the production of toys from production waste - substandard light bulbs and so on. They were made quite a lot, but more than 70 years have passed, so now such toys are rare and valuable.

Well, the oldest toys - wadded and wooden - may well be of pre-revolutionary origin. By the way, then most of the toys were homemade - so if your family has preserved decorations of those years, it is quite possible that your great-grandfather and great-grandmother made them with their own hands.

A separate song - cotton Santa Claus and Snow Maiden. Until the 1950s, their faces were molded from clay by hand, later polymer substitutes came. This "chapter" of the New Year tree is characters that you can look into the eyes and soak up the atmosphere of the holiday.

Real collectors of Christmas decorations do not measure their value in money, Ovsienko smiles. - Much more valuable spiritual, or something, importance for the family. I always discourage people from selling family toys - after all, it is with them that family history comes to life every year on the New Year tree. If you lose it, then you can not buy it for any money.

Svetlana Emelyanova, an ecologist by education, has created a business for the production of handmade Christmas decorations. The company produces 20,000 balloons a year, and sales have more than doubled over the past two years. However, it is not easy for the company to compete with factories where the creation of New Year's decorations is put on the conveyor.

“Someone loves diamonds, and I love Christmas decorations. Showcases with them fascinate me,” says Svetlana Emelyanova. She got the idea to sell hand-painted Christmas decorations after an unsuccessful shopping trip on New Year's Eve 2006. Svetlana wanted to find toys with pictures of Father Frost, countryside landscapes, and a Russian troika, but the store shelves were mostly plain balloons or portraits of Santa.

Six months later, Emelyanova accidentally ended up at a Christmas tree decorations factory near Novgorod and saw the painted balls that she had been looking for for so long. She decided to negotiate with the factory on the production of toys according to her own sketches under the Russian Elka brand.

The first batch of 12,000 balloons cost the Russian Tradition company (that's how Svetlana called her business) 800,000 rubles. “Then my husband and I rented a one-room apartment, and when the order arrived, we had to sleep on the floor in the kitchen, because the rest of the space was occupied by New Year's decorations,” Svetlana recalls. Then she opened a retail outlet in Okhotny Ryad called the Christmas Tree Decorations Store, which took about another 1.2 million rubles. The company's first big client was Yandex, which bought 20 sets of Khokhloma balloons from Emelyanova.

During November-December 2007, the startup sold half of the first batch, but sales fell by 30% after the explosion on Manezhnaya Square on December 27, 2007. The following year, 2008, Emelyanova had to sell the remains of the first batch (about 2 thousand balls). Nevertheless, she ordered another 2,000 Christmas decorations from the manufacturer, but the partner released the products at the very end of December, so the entrepreneur barely managed to break even. Emelyanova realized that it was dangerous to rely on the factory, and decided to create her own production.

In 2009, the company equipped workshops: a glass-blowing workshop in Klin, an art workshop in Moscow. The launch of production cost 2 million rubles. Two artists worked on the staff of the Russian Tradition, who painted about 5,000 balloons for the New Year. Today, the firm has 27 artists, half of them working remotely. “Out of 50 masters who come for an interview, real craftsmen who can be hired for fine work, one or two people,” Emelyanova notes.

In large factories, each artist paints individual details on each of hundreds of identical toys, and sometimes the image is applied using airbrushing through a stencil or pad printing. Souvenirs of the "Russian Tradition" are painted entirely by hand. First, the glass ball is blown on a gas burner (the glass tube is rotated in a flame), then it is dipped in varnish and dried. However, the company orders glass flasks for ordinary round toys in Europe, but non-standard-shaped ornaments (for example, in the form of a bell or icicle) are always blown by the own glassblowers of the Russian Tradition. Then the toy falls into the hands of the artist, who works on drawing every detail for several hours. Such products cost from 300 rubles. up to 80 thousand rubles

The salary of an artist in the production of "Russian Tradition" varies from 30 thousand to 80 thousand rubles. depending on the complexity of the painting, speed and volume of work. At the same time, the number of balloons according to one sketch in the collection is no more than 100 pieces, and artists themselves can offer ideas for decoration. “Of course, we are developing thematic collections (for example, Ball with Gnomes - 100 pieces, Symbol of the Year - 300 pieces), but as a result, artists embody 60-70% of what was planned, and the rest they come up with themselves,” Svetlana explains . As a result, all balls according to one sketch are different, and the buyer can choose the one he likes.

Every year, Russian Tradition produces about 20,000 handmade toys. 50-70% of the cost is for painting, 5-15% for packaging, 10% for glass. The rest of the money goes to buy paints and powders, as well as to rent premises and utility bills.

Today, 70% of Russian Elka toys are sold through an online store, the company divides the remaining goods between its own outlet, other online stores and souvenir shops. For wholesale buyers"Russian Tradition" also makes toys according to individual design: it collects pre-orders at the beginning of the year, and after an advance payment (50-70%), it starts work. The company's partners often raise prices for toys by 50-300%, although they themselves can purchase products at a discount at the beginning of the year. According to Svetlana Emelyanova, 70-80% of all toys sold in retail are purchased as a gift, less often for their own collection.

However, handmade balls for corporate clients cost more and take longer to make. For example, Russian Tradition has been accepting orders for the production of VIP balloons (worth from 13,000 to 80,000 rubles) since March, since it takes a month on average to produce one. To create a custom-shaped toy for an individual design, a sample is created in two to four months, and the production and delivery of jewelry can take several months. “We work all year for the sake of two months of active sales before the New Year,” says Svetlana Emelyanova. Until October-November, the company is focused on the production and delivery of products - only artists and a small staff work.

By the New Year, Russian Tradition is forced to hire operators for the online store, couriers, packers and loaders. Every year, about 300 thousand rubles are spent on paying temporary workers.

Today 70% of products in stock are Christmas balls own production. The company also buys New Year decorations from the Yolochka factory, a porcelain doll factory, from one of the Ukrainian manufacturers of wooden toys.

However, "Russian Tradition" brings products from abroad. For example, Emelyanova's company imports unusually shaped toys (in the form of iPhones and laptops, sushi, etc.), including from Poland. Emelyanova brings snowflakes, stars, airplanes made of glass beads from the Czech Republic. In addition, since 2012, Russian Tradition has been supplying handmade toys from Venice (about 1,000 toys every year) and Egypt (300-400 toys). Foreign suppliers have to pack their products well, so that the toys almost do not break during transportation. Nevertheless, Emelyanova has to order balloons with a small margin (1-2% of each collection). Customs payments increase the cost of imported products by 10-15%.

Over the past two years, Russian Tradition has been increasing sales by 40-50% annually, in 2012 the company's turnover amounted to about 20 million rubles, according to the results of 2013, according to Svetlana Emelyanova's plans, it will amount to 30 million rubles. The entrepreneur is looking for new buyers at industry exhibitions, as well as through mailing lists to databases of potential customers. Sales through the site are stimulated by promotion in social networks - the company has about 16 thousand subscribers in the VKontakte group.

In 2014, Svetlana Emelyanova plans to increase production and sales by 30%. The assortment will include handmade balloons with European landscapes, and artists will paint reproductions of paintings on the balloons with gold leaf. Also, in addition to Christmas tree decorations, Russian Tradition will sell candles and painted decorations of a non-standard shape. Next season, the company plans to open three new points in shopping malls and reach sales volumes of 30-35 thousand balloons.

In Russia, in addition to the Russian Tradition, the Atlas Art company is also engaged in the production of handmade Christmas decorations, which sells balls under the M. A. Mostowski brand at a factory in Poland, and also brings Komozja souvenirs from there. However, Atlas Art relies on molded Christmas tree decorations, not balls. Every year the company releases small collections according to the author's sketches (300-400 balls worth about 3.5-4.5 thousand rubles).

In addition, handmade toys are produced by the Stil s Selizharovo company near Tver, Lavrovskaya factory artistic painting near Kostroma. Muscovites can buy their products in online stores, but representatives of online retail interviewed by RBC daily explain that it is more convenient to work with Moscow manufacturers - there is no need to bring toys from afar.

However, large factories also position their New Year decorations as handmade products. For example, the Frost factory in the Pavlovsky Posad district of the Moscow region sells more than 250 types of Christmas tree decorations - from balls and molded toys to cones and pendants. As Lyudmila Nevstruyeva, general director of the factory, explained to RBC daily, the company produces 100,000-120,000 handmade toys every year. They are bought primarily by private entrepreneurs, but the main buyers are excursion groups. Every winter "Hoarfrost" is visited by about 30 thousand people - mostly schoolchildren with their parents. The factory of glass Christmas tree decorations "Ariel" near Nizhny Novgorod, engaged in the mass production of Christmas decorations, also takes on exclusive orders with hand-painted.

According to Svetlana Emelyanova, large factories cannot produce high-quality handmade toys in thousands of copies. “Factories use pad printing or airbrushing, and manual labor is 1-2 minutes per ball (draw eyes, folds on clothes, sprinkle with sparkles), says Svetlana. - It is sold as handmade, and the price is much lower. 80% of 'handmade' Christmas decorations are made exactly according to this principle.
