If you have a desire and minimal experience in keeping chickens and you are thinking about a chicken coop for a summer residence, then we will tell you how to build a mini chicken coop for 10 chickens with your own hands.

Do-it-yourself chicken coop for 10 chickens: drawings for calculating sizes, step-by-step instructions

Often you need a very small chicken coop - for 10-15 chickens. Building a mini chicken coop in the country with your own hands is not so difficult. For a few chickens, a small room will be enough: the small size and thermal insulation of the chicken coop will allow the birds to heat the room with their body heat.

In the warm season, inside it, the bird will only sleep and lay eggs, and spend the rest of the time on a fenced range. It is better to make it spacious so that the chickens do not feel discomfort. Ideally, the walking area should be at least twice as large as the house itself.

You can see examples of very interesting do-it-yourself mini-chicken coops in the video from the Country Ideas channel:

When designing and building a mini chicken coop, it's important to keep a lot of things in mind. After all, a chicken coop is both a comfortable home for birds and an outbuilding designed to make it easier for people to care for animals and increase labor productivity. Therefore, before making a mini-chicken coop with your own hands, let's figure out which structural elements and features should be inherent in every good chicken coop.

Calculation of the size of a mini-chicken coop for 10 chickens

To correctly determine the scale of the building, first of all, you need to highlight for yourself:

  1. The purpose of rearing laying hens is one thing if you need fresh eggs for your daily diet, and quite another if you decide to turn poultry breeding into a source of income.
  2. The number of birds that you are able to keep on the farm.
  3. The size of the house that is appropriate for your site.

Useful advice! The inhabitants of a mini-coop for 10 hens will provide fresh eggs for 3 people. For a large family it is worth keeping twice more birds. And if you plan to turn keeping chickens into a source of income, immediately expect to build a chicken coop with your own hands for 50-100 birds.

The construction of such a mini-chicken coop is quite within the power of every householder! This project will not take too much time and will not require expensive tools.

Don't let the big scale scare you. In the absence of experience in construction, you can buy a chicken coop inexpensively or try your hand at small buildings. If, when building a mini-chicken coop for 10 chickens with your own hands, you foresee a place to expand the farm, over time, if necessary, you can easily increase the area of \u200b\u200bthe room by completing the chicken coop.

drawings for dimensioning

Any construction begins with the creation of a drawing. Do not neglect this stage - regardless of the scale of the undertaking, your drawing should be as detailed and clear as possible. So you will have a clear picture of what you want to achieve as a result and a developed plan of action.

When creating a drawing, it is not necessary to copy the finished schemes exactly. This is the beauty of the decision to build a mini-coop with your own hands: you can design a home for birds on your own, in accordance with the characteristics of your site and your own ideas about convenience.

However, with little experience in building chicken coops, you should refer to ready-made drawings and calculations in order to orient yourself and not miss important details. Special attention it is necessary to pay attention to calculating the size of the chicken coop with your own hands for 10 chickens, because if the birds live in cramped conditions, there can be no question of any comfort for them.

For example, 3 layers need 1 m² of space. This means that for 10 chickens and a rooster, a chicken coop with parameters of 2x2 m will be a sufficient size for the dwelling. Accordingly, if there are 20 birds on your farm, the chicken coop should be 3x3 m. And so on - the size of the chicken coop is directly proportional to the number of birds.

If you are building a year-round poultry house, keep in mind that chickens tend to cluster in winter and require less living space. At this time, 1 m² of area for 4 chickens is enough. Thus, for 10 birds in winter, 2.5 m² will be needed.

On the drawings of the mini-chicken coop, do not forget to take into account the aviary for walking. Its proportions are directly related to the size of the poultry house itself: with a chicken coop width of 2 m, the minimum parameters of the aviary are 2x6 m.

The choice of materials for the construction of a mini-chicken coop

The reliability and durability of the poultry house largely depends on the quality and correctness of the materials and tools chosen for the construction.

The basic essentials include:

Choosing a place to build a mini chicken coop

for laying hens with their own hands

Having decided on the size of the future poultry house and the materials and tools necessary for construction, you can begin to choose a place for construction. Regardless of whether you decide to buy a ready-made chicken coop or build a mini chicken coop with your own hands, it is important to choose the right location. After all, in this place the birds have to spend all the time: sleep, rush and walk, so it is important that it does not become a source of discomfort for the chickens.

Observe the following rules:

The main advice on how to properly make a chicken coop is not to place it on the ground. The building needs a good foundation - the foundation.

How to build a mini chicken coop:

choice of foundation

There are two optimal types of foundation:

  1. Columnar.
  2. Tape.

Plans for a mini chicken coop usually call for a pier foundation, as this works best for a lightweight structure. In addition, it has a number of other important advantages:

It is not difficult to build such a foundation:

  1. Drill pits along the perimeter of the future chicken coop to a depth of 1 m. The diameter of each should be approximately 15-20 cm. The distance between the posts should be 1 m.
  2. Next, you need a round formwork. It can be constructed from any available materials - asbestos-cement pipes are ideal.
  3. Insert the pipes into the hole.
  4. Before pouring concrete, insert pre-threaded rebar into the pits.
  5. As a result, with the help of a nut, the support beam is attached to the concrete pillars.

Useful advice! If this process seems too complicated, you can watch numerous themed videos on how to build a chicken coop or opt for an easier option to install a chicken coop. For example, you can take 4 blocks of concrete or any other suitable material. The space between the supports is laid with stone or brick, providing stability and integrity to the structure. Please note that the height of the pillars above the ground should be at least 20 cm, then the place under the house can be used for walking chickens.

The frame structure is optimal for the poultry house, as its construction is fast and easy.

Mini-do-it-yourself chicken coop:

According to the drawings, photos of mini-chicken coops, it can be seen that a frame structure is being built on the basis of a columnar foundation. Its peculiarity lies in its simplicity and high speed construction, which makes building a chicken coop not much more difficult than buying a ready-made chicken coop for 10 chickens.

Stages of erection of a frame structure:

  1. Take bars with parameters 70x70 mm.
  2. To build the frame, nail the vertical posts to the support beam.
  3. Add horizontal beams to the structure for the base of the roof and floor.

In this case, you should also carefully calculate the parameters. For example, for a poultry house for 20 chickens, the parameters of low and high walls, subject to a shed roof, are calculated based on the dimensions. From the photo of do-it-yourself chicken coops for 10 chickens, it can be seen that they can be low, but, in any case, the distance between the floor and the ground should be at least 35-45 cm.

Take care of the presence of a window, as well as two doors: for the owner and directly for the birds. Please note that nests do not have to be in the house itself, as in most photos of chicken coops inside. A convenient option is to add nests to the house: in this case, special doors can be made in the nests, as well as a lifting cover for easy cleaning of the nest and egg collection. If you decide to build nests according to this model, you should also provide for their extension at this stage.

Winter mini chicken coops for 10 hens:insulation of poultry houses

In addition, at the stage of building walls, you should think about providing a comfortable temperature for birds. First of all, it matters whether you are going to keep chickens in the house all year round or if it is a seasonal building.

If the mini-chicken coop is supposed to be operated in the cold season, after you have sheathed the walls with boards from the outside, you need to take care of the thermal insulation of the structure. This is an important point, since when the microclimate is disturbed, chickens begin to experience discomfort, get sick and, as a result, become inactive and rush less.

If you are going to build a mini-chicken coop with your own hands, photos, diagrams will become indispensable helpers in this matter. On well-drawn drawings, it can be seen that the winter house provides for the presence of thermal insulation.

One of the following options is suitable as a material for these purposes:

  • Styrofoam;
  • mineral wool;
  • ecowool.

After the installation of the insulation is carried out, from the inside it is necessary to sew up the entire structure with plywood or boards.

Can be used as a heater various materials. Mineral wool is perfect for this.
Styrofoam and expanded polystyrene can also be used as insulation.
The insulation is inserted between the bars, after which it is sewn up with plywood. Otherwise, birds can peck at it (they especially love foam).
In winter, it is also worth closing the windows with insulation. It is important to provide artificial lighting.
In case of severe frosts, it is possible to provide for the presence infrared lamps. At the same time, their work can be controlled by a timer or even a thermal relay - this eliminates unnecessary trouble, eliminates human factor(forgot to turn on/off) and saves money.

How to build a mini chicken coop for laying hens:

floor and roof construction

To make the chickens feel comfortable in any weather, it would be useful to have a double floor - it will provide additional insulation premises. The scheme of such a floor is simple: hem the boards from the bottom of the lathing, and then lay the insulation and lay the floor.

However, you can do without special floor insulation. Sawdust or straw can act as a heater. A thick layer of these materials is an excellent thermal insulator that does not require much effort or effort on your part.

The best material for a warm chicken coop is a bar or log. They are especially well suited for the construction of pavilions.

The simplest roof option is a pitched roof. For its construction, it is necessary to fill boards or beams, maintaining a distance of 50 cm between them. To ensure waterproofing, it is enough to put roofing material on this base.

If you want to provide additional insulation to the poultry house, you can hem the roof from the inside with chipboard or boards. As a material for the outer covering of the roof, many options are suitable: slate, corrugated board, reed, etc.

Arrangement of a chicken coop inside with your own hands:

In the photo of beautiful chicken coops, they look neat and comfortable both inside and out. The internal structure of the house is especially important, because it is there that the chickens will spend most of their time. Also, the space should be comfortable for the owner, so that he can easily take care of the birds. It is up to you to make it so. For a better understanding of the process, check out the information below on how to equip a chicken coop inside with your own hands.

How to equip chicken coops inside for laying hens: the main aspects

Features of the internal structure of the chicken coop:

Part of the chicken coop Helpful Hints Calculations
Ventilation
  • it is imperative to equip the chicken coop with ventilation: the influx of fresh air is vital for birds;
  • do not forget to close the ventilation when using the house in the winter season so that the chickens do not catch cold
  • to ensure the outflow of air, an exhaust pipe must be provided in the upper part of the wall;
  • the supply pipe must be placed on the opposite wall at a height of 50 cm from the floor
Window
  • There must be windows for sunlight to enter the room.
  • if you make several windows, they can be small (or one, but large)
Perch
  • the perch is necessary for the rest of the birds;
  • the simplest option is to use them as perches
  • in the case of using poles, their diameter should be 3-4 cm;
  • you can also take planed round bars with parameters 4x4 cm and fix them at a height of 50 cm from the floor at the same level - when calculating the distance from the floor, consider the height of the litter;
  • the distance between the poles should be 35 cm, and the wall to the nearest bar should be separated by at least 25 cm
nests
  • there are many options for arranging nests, while it is easy to use improvised means: wicker baskets, wooden boxes, boxes
  • for the comfort of the birds, it is important that the nest meets the minimum size requirements: 30 cm wide, 30 cm high, 40 cm deep;
  • one hen on the first day before lunch lays one egg, the second egg on the second day after lunch, on the third day the bird rests, so there should be 1 nest for 3-4 layers

Useful advice! The calculation of the length of the perch should be based on the number of birds you have. One hen needs a perch space of 17-20 cm long. Thus, you can easily calculate the sufficient length of the pole. If possible, it is better to take a stick that is longer than the minimum required.

In addition, even at the construction stage, you should think about the place where you will feed the birds. Make sure it is as comfortable for the hens as possible and easy to maintain for you. The length of the feeder depends on the number of birds on the farm. For example, one chicken should have 10-15 cm of feeder space. If possible, it is worth making feeders with a margin.

Don't forget to make a couple of extra feeders in the form of boxes and place them above the floor at a height of 15 cm. Make sure that gravel, chalk and shells are always present in these boxes - these materials are necessary for hens to form eggs.

DIY mini chicken coop for 10 chickens

In the above photos of mini-chicken coops in the country, you can see how best to equip the feeders inside the house.

Another useful device in the chicken coop is home dust baths for birds. Setting them up is quite simple: you will need any containers that can be filled with sand, wood ash, or garden soil. Bathing in them is extremely useful for chickens: it improves the condition of their plumage, and also contributes to the destruction of pests.

The final stage of the device mini-coop for laying hens

After the construction of the structure is completed, Finishing work. They concern trifles, but are extremely important for the comfortable use of the poultry house by the owners and the well-being of the birds. Thanks to them, a mini-coop for laying hens (photos show this) will become functional and will not spoil the appearance of the local area.

In summary, it is important to emphasize that various nuances may arise during construction. Many factors influence the situation: this is the availability of space on the site, and the need for a subsequent expansion of the house, and even the climatic conditions of the area. However, a number of patterns can be distinguished, following which you can build a poultry house no worse than in the video of mini-coops for laying hens with your own hands, given at the end of the article. And you will also be sure of the comfort of your pets.

Beautiful and functional chicken coop for 10 laying hens

A number of nuances if you decide to build a chicken coop (both in the country and in the place of permanent residence):

  • the more spacious the bird's dwelling, the better. Therefore, if space on the site and building materials allow, do not make a drawing according to minimal calculations, but build with a margin;
  • make sure that there is free access to all feeders and drinkers in the room;
  • all perches for chickens should be placed at different heights;
  • carefully choose a place for the nests of laying hens: they should be located in a dark, quiet and warm corner where the hens will feel safe;
  • there should be enough light in the room, so take care of the presence of windows, as well as the presence of artificial light sources.

Useful advice! A sedentary lifestyle negatively affects the health of laying hens. In addition, low activity leads to a decrease in immunity, loss of appetite and, as a result, low egg production. The solution to all these problems is very simple: it is enough to add bird food not only to the feeder, but also to the bedded straw or sawdust. The search for food leads the hens to tone, stimulates the appetite and makes them move.

After the completion of the main construction, finishing work is necessary, thanks to which the chicken coop can become a decoration of your yard

Is it worth it to buy an inexpensive mini-coop for 10 chickens

Today, it is less and less customary to build something with your own hands. It is much easier to buy a mini chicken coop ready-made and not figure out how to build one yourself. In some cases, this decision is justified. If you have no experience in building farm buildings, you are unsure of your abilities or do not have enough time, it is better to buy a good chicken coop and provide the chickens with comfortable living conditions.

In addition, it is appropriate to buy a chicken coop if your plans include commercial chicken breeding and you need a large-scale poultry house for a hundred chickens. Or, on the contrary, if you need a very small chicken coop and you do not plan to breed birds.

According to the hero of this story, Roman, for him, chickens are not only delicious homemade eggs, but also the maximum of a positive mood. He approached the construction of the chicken coop no less seriously than the construction of his house. Therefore, the chicken coop turned out not only warm and comfortable for chickens, but also with designer features. Roman also shares his experience in choosing the breed and proper nutrition of chickens for better egg production.

Recently, more and more people are breeding chickens on their own. suburban area. Even a small number of heads, about ten hens, can provide a small family with eight or nine eggs a day. In summer, laying hens can be carried under any conditions, but in winter they need to be equipped with a special warm room. Building a chicken coop with your own hands for 10 winter chickens is a simple task, even a beginner can handle it.

Winter chicken care

The chicken coop is where the chickens spend their time during the winter. Considering that egg production depends on comfortable living conditions, you need to properly equip it. If the chickens are cold, they lose a lot of energy to keep warm.

In the chicken coop, it is necessary to create optimal conditions:

  1. Stabilize the thermal regime, which should be in the range from twelve to eighteen degrees. If you sharply reduce the temperature, then egg production, respectively, falls. In the southern regions, chickens are able to endure winter cold without additional heating. In the north - be sure to install special heating lamps.
  2. Lighting in the chicken coop should be at least fourteen hours. In winter, daylight hours are significantly reduced, so it must be extended piece by piece. For this, fluorescent lamps are used.
  3. Humidity in the room must be kept between sixty and eighty percent. This is only possible if the chicken coop is ventilated. Especially if special valves are arranged in it. It is necessary to ensure that the poultry house is constantly Fresh air, but in no case should drafts be allowed.
  4. Be sure to take care of the safety of birds from all sorts of rodents and predators that feast on chicken.
  5. It is important where exactly on the site the room will be located. The place must be quiet, where nothing will disturb the birds.

All chicken coop walls should be inspected for cracks or other openings through which cold wind can pass. Windows for the winter also need to be closed tightly and firmly. Lamps that serve as a heater for chickens must be installed in such a way that the chickens cannot burn themselves and at the same time do not break them. If in locality there are frequent power outages, in this case you need to purchase a generator. Thanks to him, the layers will be throughout the winter in a warm and comfortable room.

Winter chicken care

When preparing a summer chicken coop for wintering, you need to take care of indoor hygiene. To do this, you need to putty, as well as disinfect the walls of the house. Then whiten them and change the litter in the nests.

Do-it-yourself warm winter chicken coop for 10 chickens

It is very important to choose the right place where the chicken coop will be located:

  1. The poultry house is located in a place where the smell of chicken manure cannot reach the house.
  2. Chickens should be comfortable indoors, no one and nothing should scare them, since this factor affects their egg production.
  3. It is best to place the chicken coop in the farthest corner of the site.
  4. The location of the premises must be chosen in such a way that it is possible to build an aviary as a continuation of the structure. Thus, the chicken coop and the aviary are a separate territory.
  5. To avoid flooding the chicken coop in the spring, you need to place it on an elevated area where water does not accumulate.
  6. In order for a large amount of sunlight to enter the chicken coop, it is recommended to place its windows to the south.
  7. It is best to build a poultry house not far from the fence, a maximum of four meters, so it will be protected from the cold wind.

Important! It is necessary to locate the chicken coop from the water source no less than forty meters.

After the site has been chosen, it is necessary to prepare the site itself. To do this, you need to calculate the required dimensions. To accommodate ten hens, the most optimal would be a chicken coop with parameters of 100X200X150 centimeters. Thus, inside the room you get an area of \u200b\u200bfifteen square meters.

After the calculations are carried out, the preparation of the site for the foundation is carried out. To do this, the top layer of soil is removed, thirty, thirty-five centimeters high. This is done so that grass does not grow near the building. Instead of soil, the site is covered with gravel, a ball of ten centimeters.

Winter warm chicken coop

Then you need to create a detailed drawing, according to which the farmer will see how the house will look like in the end result, what material is needed for construction and its quantity. Thus, the construction cost budget will be set.

It is important to make a drawing of both the internal and external sides of the structure. There are many ready-made drawings, but it is best to create your own unique version that will best meet the owner's needs in terms of comfort for birds.

Advice. When developing drawings for a chicken coop, you need to remember to create a hole for chickens in an aviary for walking.

The best material for building a chicken coop is oriented strand board (OSB) because it has a number of advantages:

  • low cost;
  • ease of use.

If the farm has a brick, then it is also suitable for building a poultry house. At the same time, the brick house will be much stronger and more stable. You can also use expanded clay concrete blocks. The choice of material in most cases depends on the budget and capabilities of the owner. The most inexpensive option would still be wood.

Important! Under no circumstances should iron be used to build a chicken coop. Since this material does not hold heat at all, condensation collects on the walls from temperature changes. Accordingly, indoors will be cold and humid.

In addition, to build a chicken coop for 10 chickens, you will also need the following materials:

  • sand;
  • cement;
  • nails;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • boards;
  • bars;
  • material for insulation;
  • ruberoid;
  • slate;
  • electric cable;
  • switch;
  • light bulbs;
  • glass or glass blocks;
  • door hinges;
  • Rabitz;
  • expanded clay for floor insulation;
  • pipe for ventilation.

Step-by-step instruction

The phased construction plan consists of the following steps:

  • First you need to build a foundation for the poultry house. It is recommended to choose a columnar or pile option, because, thanks to it, additional ventilation of the floor covering will be created, so that the wood will not rot. Also, in the event of a flood, water will not enter the room. In addition, since the chicken house is very light, such a foundation will be much cheaper and will not require a large number materials, while it can stand for a long time.
  • After the foundation is ready, it will be possible to proceed with further work. The second stage will be the construction of the flooring. A support frame is made from the beams and sheathed at the bottom with boards. Then, at a distance of half a meter from each other, logs are installed, the parameters of which are 100X150 cm. Then the base must be fixed on the pillars, on which roofing material is first placed.
  • Then expanded clay is poured into the voids between the lags and boards are already laid on top of it. To prevent pests from entering the chicken coop, you can fill the floor with concrete.
  • Then you can proceed directly to the construction. If bars are chosen as the material, then they are placed one on top of the other, but linen-jute material must be placed between them. Thanks to him, the gaps will be sealed. If an OSB board is used, then it is imperative to make a frame of beams, which is sheathed on the outside with a plate, then mineral wool is placed, then sheathing is done again. Thus, the walls will be a reliable shelter for birds from frost.
  • FROM south side a ventilation pipe is inserted into the wall, but a damper must be installed in it. Windows and doors are also made. At the same time, hinges must be installed in the window frames so that the room can be ventilated. Doors are made of beams and sheathed with slabs.
  • The roof can be made both single-pitched and gable, with a small attic. The beams must be attached to the strapping of the structure. Then flooring is made on the beams and after that the beams are covered first with roofing material, and then with roofing material.

poultry house insulation

For this you can use:

  • mineral wool,
  • Styrofoam,
  • expanded polystyrene.

Insulation can be mounted both outside and inside the room. It is attached directly to the wall with a metal mesh. For internal insulation, it is necessary to upholster the insulation layer with plywood. Otherwise, the chickens will peck at the foam, and this will negatively affect their health.

  1. On the floor you need to make additional insulation. To do this, peat, sawdust or straw are laid, with a ball of ten centimeters.
  2. Poles are made on which the chickens will spend the night. The distance between them should be at least thirty centimeters. The length of the poles must be at least two meters. For each you need to install a ladder. Thus, it will be convenient for the chickens to climb for the night.
  3. Nests are installed at a height of sixty centimeters from the floor. You can make them yourself from improvised materials. The bottom is lined with straw or sawdust.
  4. Bird feeders need to be made elongated. This way all the hens can eat at the same time. Drinking bowls are arranged in such a way that water does not spill out of them while drinking.
  5. To extend the daylight hours, lighting is installed. The wiring must be mounted outside, while it is hidden in special boxes. Metal lampshades are put on the lamps.

Making a house yourself will be much cheaper than buying a ready-made building. In this case, all the arrangement is done to the taste of the owner. The project is planned in such a way that it fits into the interior of the cottage. Even a novice poultry farmer can do all the work.

Poultry farming is gaining more and more popularity. Chickens are especially loved by farmers. From these birds you can easily get both meat and eggs. Breeding and keeping laying hens does not involve huge financial costs and unnecessary hardships. The main thing is to provide living creatures with comfortable conditions for existence. The arrangement of the poultry house will not take much time and will be affordable for every owner of his own farm.

You can start by keeping a small family. To build a winter chicken coop for 10 chickens with your own hands, you need to prepare a place for the house, decide on the material and, of course, draw up a detailed drawing by making simple calculations. All this can be done by one person, without additional help.

Technical features

The main technical feature of a winter chicken coop is the need for its insulation. The bird hardly tolerates cold, drafts, temperature changes. It is necessary to ensure that the room is free of cracks and gaps. Then the birds will feel comfortable and lay eggs regularly, without fail. Otherwise, the arrangement of a winter poultry house for ten chickens does not have striking differences from the construction of a summer version of the house.

Optimal dimensions and area

Determining the optimal size and area of \u200b\u200bthe future chicken coop is quite easy. It is necessary to take into account the main characteristics of the economy. Among them:

  • the purpose of breeding birds (meat or eggs);
  • livestock size (how many laying hens in the family);
  • features of the land and the site where the house will stand.

If the farmer has a lot of free space on the plot, he can make the house bigger if he wants. If there is not enough land, you will have to make the most compact version.

A family of 10 hens will produce about 3 eggs daily. If the owner wants to organize a business for the supply and sale of eggs or meat, then it is recommended to have more birds - at least 50, and preferably 100.

Blueprints

Before you build a house for laying hens, you need to draw up a project for a chicken coop. For this, a drawing is drawn. On the Internet you can find ready-made schemes, as well as training videos. But it is not necessary to strictly follow their instructions. It is quite possible to connect your own imagination and convert the standard drawing of a winter chicken coop for 10 chickens. If the owner did not have construction experience before, it is better not to invent new schemes, but to act according to existing ones.

The main thing is that the building is functional, with enough free space and convenient for both birds and humans.

It should be borne in mind that birds like to sit side by side in winter. So they warm up to each other. As a result, they will already need less space, and 4 individuals will fit per 1 m².

Location selection

For a chicken coop for 10 chickens, you need to choose a convenient and correct place. First of all, it must be dry. Humidity is bad for bird health. From dampness, there is a risk of catching a cold for hens, and this, in turn, will adversely affect their ability to carry the eggs the farmer needs.

What else influences the choice of location:

  • whether the surface is sloping - such a factor will help protect the livestock from the accumulation and penetration of rainwater;
  • will there be enough light - the house should be well warmed up by the sun;
  • on which side the building will be installed - preference should be given to the south side.

Do not place the house block directly on the ground. First you need to build a solid foundation.

Materials and construction stages

The material for a chicken coop for 10 chickens can be very different. It all depends on the capabilities and wishes of the owner of the birds. Most often used for construction:

A winter house should always be insulated, no matter what material it is erected from. Everything you need to start construction can be bought in specialized stores, in markets, asked from neighbors in the area, or you can use the remnants of materials from the construction or repair of a country house or bath. Buying expensive material does not make sense.

When asked how to cover the building, the answer should be this - they mainly use roofing or slate. Some choose metal roofing. But this option cannot be called successful. The chicken is a shy bird. And every time it rains, snows or hail, the precipitation will hit the metal and create a sharp noise. Kvochka will get scared and most likely their productivity will drop. For a farmer, this outcome is undesirable.

Foundation and site preparation

The choice of foundation is based on the type of material. As an optimal solution, it is recommended to stay on a columnar foundation. It is flexible, durable and reliable. The costs for it are small, as well as the low degree of complexity of its arrangement. An alternative is a strip base.

How to build a foundation:

  1. Clear the selected piece of land, remove the top layer (about 30-60 centimeters).
  2. Pour sand mixed with gravel at the bottom. They will play the role of the so-called "pillow".
  3. From boards, 25 centimeters wide, make formwork.
  4. For reinforcement use rods.
  5. Take concrete grade M300, no less.

As soon as the concrete hardens, you can proceed to the construction of the chicken coop. The size of the site must match the dimensions of the intended building.

Columnar

As the name implies, this type of base rests on pillars. Suitable for light weight poultry houses.

Advantages:

  • takes little time to create;
  • it is convenient to mount it;
  • natural ventilation is provided.

How to build a columnar foundation:

  1. The first stage is the drilling of pits. Depth - no more than a meter. The diameter of each hole is approximately 20 centimeters.
  2. Next is the formwork. The material is pipes made of asbestos cement.
  3. Prepared pipes are installed in a dug recess.
  4. Reinforcing bars are placed to them.
  5. Everything is filled with concrete.

When the concrete hardens, you will need to attach the support beam to the base. That's all!

Tape

Such a foundation is more suitable for a chicken coop for 20 birds. But if desired, it can be laid for a smaller structure.

How to make a tape base:

  1. The first stage is digging a trench along the perimeter of the future chicken coop. Depth - from 50 centimeters, width - from 35 centimeters.
  2. The second stage is clearing the bottom of the trench from pebbles, roots and other things.
  3. Then you need to level the bottom, tamp it tightly.
  4. Then you need to pour crushed stone (middle fraction), level it again, and on top - building sand. The thickness of the layer with crushed stone is 15 centimeters, the layer with sand is slightly less - 10 centimeters.
  5. Collect formwork.
  6. Put reinforcement on the bottom. Use ribbed rods with a diameter of 1-1.2 centimeters. The distance between the bars should be 15 centimeters.
  7. The final step is to pour the concrete.

Finally, you need to level the top, close the resulting structure with a film and make it like this for 1-3 weeks.

The term depends on temperature regime(weather):

  • +20°C and above - 1 week;
  • 17°C-20°C heat - 2 weeks;
  • less than +17°С - 3 weeks.

At the end of the term, the formwork is removed, and the construction of a poultry house for ten chickens continues.

Chicken coop owners should remember that any foundation needs waterproofing. It can be done by covering the base with bituminous mastic or laying a double layer of rolled waterproofing. The proposed methods can be combined to improve efficiency.

Walls and floor

Wooden boards are usually used to equip the floor. Lay the following layers:

  • raw boards;
  • vapor barrier material;
  • finished boards.

The walls are also made of wood. Sometimes there are combinations of boards, plywood and lining. There is also a brick chicken coop. It retains heat well in winter, and in summer it gives the necessary freshness and coolness.

Roofing material acts as an insulating material. It is laid in a double layer. All voids and cracks both in the walls and on the floor are closed with a beam or fiber made of flax and jute.

Roof and ceiling

In order to competently equip the roof for a poultry house, you need to remember some features of this matter. Firstly, it is worth stopping at a gable roof, since this form will protect the birds from moisture penetrating into the house (the consequences of snow and rain).

Secondly, it is not necessary to use a metal coating. It is better to give preference to tiles or slate. Thirdly, it is mandatory to perform thermal insulation. To do this, use mineral wool or chipboard - the choice of the farmer. You can also equip a small attic. Food, some devices, parts for perches, bedding for laying hens are usually put there.

First, ceiling beams are installed, and a coating is placed on top. The material is boards, and expanded clay acts as a heater, coupled with coal slag.

Without overlap

The roof for the chicken coop can be built without overlap. In this case, the height of the walls will be about 140-150 centimeters. You also need to adhere to the following parameters:

  • roof type - gable;
  • raise the skate by 180-200 centimeters;
  • be sure to insulate the roof, covering the entire area.

The advantage of a non-overlapping structure is that it allows significant savings. And the disadvantage is its uncomfortable internal arrangement for a person - you have to tilt your head every time so as not to hit the ceiling and not hurt yourself.

On poles

A mini-house on poles involves a roof, which is equipped at a height of 180-200 centimeters. Other characteristics are:

  • it is necessary to dig four beams in the corners of the building;
  • make the floor overlap at a height of at least 50 centimeters above the ground (limit - 80 centimeters);
  • do not forget about insulation;
  • build an inclined ladder for birds and equip it with perches.

The option on poles is usually built for the summer keeping of birds. But with high-quality and sound insulation, it will serve perfectly in the winter.

Warming and vapor barrier

Need to support comfortable temperature and indoor humidity levels. Drafts should not be allowed to form. Chickens are afraid of them, and also do not tolerate dampness. These factors negatively affect not only the health of birds, but also their ability to rush. In order for the wintering of the hens to take place without prejudice to their physical condition, it is necessary to insulate the chicken coop and make sure that the thermal insulation is at the highest level.

In order not to waste time and not suffer from solving the problem, you should use ready-made diagrams, drawings and photos. The material for thermal insulation can be mineral wool or ecowool, or foam.

After laying the selected insulation, the walls must be sewn up with boards. Material - wood, plastic, chipboard. After the above actions, a temperature suitable for the birds will be established in the chicken coop, and they will feel good without causing unnecessary trouble to their owner.

Mineral (basalt or glass) wool

If the room is built in the form of a frame, mineral wool insulation will be the best solution to the problem.

How to do:

  1. Sheathe the frame on the outside.
  2. Lay waterproofing.
  3. Leave a gap for ventilation (2-3 centimeters is enough).
  4. Install a heater.
  5. A special membrane must be fixed on top of the insulation. Its function is vapor barrier.
  6. Then comes the interior lining. For it, plywood, boards, OSB or other variations are used.

The correct sequence of layers:

  • lining inside;
  • vapor barrier;
  • insulation;
  • gap for ventilation;
  • waterproofing;
  • sheathing outside.

The layers are listed in sequence from inner to outer layer. Efficiency will directly depend on the operation of the fan. Its task is to remove excess steam and moisture.

Styrofoam and expanded polystyrene

To lay the foam as a heater, it must first be crushed with a saw. Take a saw with fine teeth. Then, when the material is cut, it must be fixed. To do this, use mounting foam (small expansion). Then, for greater strength and compaction of the foam, you should fill the strips on both sides along the racks.

Two options are acceptable - laying foam outside, that is, from the side of the walls, and from the inside of the chicken coop. However, experienced poultry farmers say that waterproofing is necessary for the outer skin. Styrofoam has the feature of "blooming" from moisture. In winter, when there is a lot of snow and precipitation, this risk increases, so you need to stop it.

Important! It is recommended to leave small gaps between the walls and, in fact, the insulation. The gaps create natural ventilation. Thanks to it, excess moisture will evaporate. As a result, the chicken coop will not get damp, it will stand for many years.

The interior of the chicken coop

After the main work has been completed, you should move on to organizing the internal space of the chicken coop for 10 chickens. One of the highlights is installation and arrangement. For laying hens, this is especially important. The degree of its egg production directly depends on whether the perch is comfortable for the hen.

Parameters for perches:

  • production material - wood;
  • be sure to grind the perches, round the edges;
  • height - up to 80 centimeters, but not less than 65 centimeters;
  • intermediate distance - up to 70 centimeters, but not less than 55 centimeters.

In addition to the perches themselves, it is necessary to put trays and pallets for the birds. It is better to make a chicken roost so that it is convenient to remove it for cleaning. Cleaning and disinfection of perches should be carried out regularly to avoid infection of chickens with various infections.

Lighting

The development of chickens and their psychological comfort depend on lighting. The mode of the day is also directly related to lighting. It is necessary to wake up and drive the chickens at the same time. And they will understand this by turning the light on and off.

What else affects lighting:

  • correct development of chicks;
  • egg weight and size;
  • well-being of birds;
  • emotional state of the family;
  • egg production.

The eyesight of chickens is not adapted to see well in the dark. Lighting must be switched off and on smoothly. Otherwise, the quotes will be frightened and may inadvertently cripple themselves or their relatives.

When laying hens for the night, you must wait until everyone is seated on perches. Then turn off some of the lamps. Wait a little longer and turn off all the lights.

You should also turn on half first lighting fixtures, and then, when the birds wake up, everything else. The recommended brightness is 35-45 lux for chicks and 10 lux for adults.

Heating

Chickens are afraid of drafts, from which they easily catch cold. Heating in the poultry house must be adjusted. First you need to insulate the walls and ceiling of the room. For this, foam, mineral wool or ecowool is used. Because even if there is heating in the house, but the cracks are not sealed, there will be exactly zero sense from heating.

Doors and window openings should also be insulated. Then make a heavy bedding on the floor, which will retain heat and keep out the cold. It is made from slaked lime, and sawdust and straw are also added there. Other components are peat, fallen leaves, manure.

Ventilation

We have already mentioned the importance of temperature and humidity conditions when keeping chickens. If the humidity is too high or, conversely, too low, this will adversely affect the health of the birds. Ventilation should be laid at the earliest stages of construction in order to avoid problems later.

First perform natural ventilation.
A hole is punched in the wall so that air can freely penetrate inside. A plastic pipe is inserted into the resulting hole. You will need to pick up a cover for it. Thus, the owner of the house will be able to control the natural ventilation system.

Another option is exhaust ventilation. But it is chosen by those owners who have at least 20 hens. For a population of 10 birds, such a system may not be really needed. But if the owner wishes, exhaust ventilation can be equipped with your own hands.

How to equip the exhaust ventilation system:

  • make a couple of holes for the pipes, and they need to be done a little away from the perches so that the kvochki do not catch a cold;
  • pipes through which fresh air will be supplied from the street should be located 35-40 centimeters from the roof;
  • put the exhaust pipe so that it rises at least 1.5 meters above the roof level;
  • so that, together with the air, precipitation does not get inside the building, put peculiar umbrellas on the ends of the pipes.

If there are no pipes, they can be made from wooden boxes. But first they need to be painted and puttyed.

In order for air to circulate evenly, the pipes must be placed opposite each other, that is, at opposite ends of the chicken coop. Exhaust ventilation is started manually. It can be additionally equipped with sensors that will show the level of humidity. According to the sensors, it will always be possible to track the mode and adjust it.

Walking for chickens

For good health and to maintain proper activity, chickens must walk. Even at the stage of designing a house, you need to think about a place for walking. Space should be enough for the whole family of birds. Each individual should feel calm and free. The approximate size of the enclosure is 2x6 meters. The walking area must be protected from the potential intrusion of other animals, such as cats or dogs. They can attack chickens or just scare them. The enclosure must also be equipped with a canopy so that the sun does not burn the birds, and the precipitation does not cause illness. The paddock should ideally be located in a quiet place, because chickens are afraid of harsh sounds and noise. But if there is no way to isolate the family from noise, you need to at least take care of their safety.

If you follow all the recommendations, arranging a chicken coop with your own hands will not cause difficulties. With patience, attentiveness and a sincere desire to make a quality home for birds, the intended goal will be achieved and successfully implemented.

Useful video

Video about a winter chicken coop with a paddock:

Friends, in this photo selection I want to show the projects of the simplest home chicken coops in the country, which you can do with your own hands. Often summer residents living in their summer cottage all year round, or from spring to autumn, give birth to chickens.

Most focus on 10 pieces plus a rooster - this is a kind of minimum that will allow you to be with both eggs and meat. Chickens not only lay eggs, but also leave valuable fertilizer - chicken droppings, so the benefits of them are double.

The simplest chicken coop with a walking area under the net

Or maybe triple, given that the surplus of eggs can always be sold on the market, which means that at least part of the costs will be recouped. I offer you 10 projects for building a chicken house that I found and that seemed to me worthy of attention.

The simplest winter chicken coop is easy to maintain

Here with this project home chicken coop everything should be clear from the drawing. Select sizes according to your needs. The idea seemed very practical to me.

Beautiful winter version of the poultry house

I liked this beautiful and functional mini chicken coop for 5 chickens. The video shows the entire construction with the author's comments behind the scenes. Take a look and get inspired to build.

The idea of a solid chicken coop with a poultry walking area

If your livestock is larger, then you can increase the size. This, in my opinion, is the best video, I can watch it all the time, everything is so smartly done!

In this video given practical advice on construction. I recommend watching!

Wooden frame chicken coop

The easiest drawing of a chicken coop

If you are just starting to delve into the issue of self-building a chicken coop, then this article is for you! Carefully read the practical part of the construction, it describes in an understandable language how to build a frame house for chickens, sheathed with boards on both sides, how to insulate it, how to make a floor and windows.

Video by Sergey Lissitzky - an excellent chicken coop for 15 chickens (Hiseks and Lohman Brown breeds)

Be sure to watch this video! I think that Sergey has an ideal and correct chicken coop and optimal breeds of laying hens. 13-15 eggs a day from 15 hens is, in my opinion, an excellent indicator! After reading the video material, it will not be difficult for you to make a similar chicken coop.

Chicken coop design with outdoor area

you can see in detail on excellent photos with an increase in the project of a chicken coop with an area for walking. A light summer house is connected to a paddock fenced with a chain-link net. Very useful article!

In it, the authors also touch on the rules for keeping chickens, because the structure of the chicken coop directly depends on these rules. The photo projections show the dimensions of the house and its necessary elements: feeders, perches, openings for walking.

Chicken coop with a frame made of timber sheathed with plywood

The construction of a wonderful chicken coop for 20 chickens is described on the website

The structure was built of timber sheathed with OSB board. With a gable roof and windows sheathed with thick metal mesh. The article has a list of materials needed for construction. In principle, this chicken coop can be built with a metal frame - the owner's business.

However, to use this chicken coop in winter, you need additional arrangement of insulation. The project involves the construction of a paddock around the chicken coop. We hope that this material will be useful to you!

You will see the construction of a "five-star" chicken coop on the site "Themselves with your own hands"

On the step by step photos the construction and decoration of a warm winter house for chickens is captured in detail. The size of the chicken coop is 4x5 m, it consists of two rooms. This chicken coop even has underfloor heating!

Everything has been thought of: a perch with removable trays, a ventilation system, doors at the bottom of the wall for chickens to exit into the next room. If you decide to build a winter chicken coop, then this information is for you!

Sleepy winter version of the poultry house

Small chicken coop with roaming area

An interesting project of a small chicken coop is offered to readers by the author of the article

Its total size is 2x3 m. The base of this chicken coop is made of timber 100x100 mm, and the frame of the house is made of timber 50x50 mm. The house itself is small - only 2x1.2 m, sheathed with OSB boards and finished with slabs covered with Maxim paint (mahogany). Looks pretty good! Chickens don't care, but it's nice to see people! Consider this successful project.

Chicken coop for 50 chickens

The article tells about the construction of a chicken coop (poultry house). For construction, you can use the drawing of a chicken coop for 50 chickens. For clarity, the authors of the site posted a video at the end of the article about the features of caring for this type of bird. Related to this are the features of the arrangement necessary premises for them. Interesting video. Very clear, concise and useful information!

Lighting Issues

Also, after the construction of the premises, it is necessary to solve issues with lighting. This video provides helpful tips.

Fleas in the chicken coop

Separately, I want to say about fleas, more precisely about prevention methods to prevent their appearance in the chicken coop. The main condition is the presence of a container with ash so that the chickens can take ash baths.

By the way, contrary to the belief of some, lice do not touch chickens, and in no way can they breed on them. Therefore, there can be no lice on chickens, only fleas.

Photo ideas for chicken coops - what are they

An example of a solid wooden chicken coop, with a walking area for chickens, protected by a mesh from predators. Please note that the design allows you to move it from place to place, thereby providing the bird with access to fresh greenery.

We all have our own idea of what an ideal chicken coop should be. For example, this one is more of an option for city dwellers who want to play with chickens for the summer.

And this is a simple solid chicken coop with a walking area, a closed grid. In general, nets are necessary, as ferrets can gnaw on a bird. These animals can destroy all chickens in one night, so pay attention to the protection of birds from these predators.

But the rat, if it gets through, it will spoil the eggs, it will not dare to attack the birds. Only as a last resort, when absolutely hungry, attacks of big rats on chickens were noted. A variant of the struggle, as in the case of ferrets, is the upholstery of the room from the inside with a net.

Well, if a fox got into your chicken coop, then it remains to sympathize. It will suppress everyone, while if you follow the safety rules, then no one will climb into you. So ask yourself all questions...

Another example of decorative performance. Children will be happy to watch the life of chickens.

I am a woman, which means I am primarily looking for beautiful ideas. About functional constructions it is written above, but here - joy!

Another simple square chicken coop for 5 hens and a rooster. This is an all-weather option, heating is provided inside.

If you are worried about your garden, but still want your chickens to be able to eat insects and fresh herbs, then pay attention to the idea of a tunnel with a metal mesh.

Such a structure can be regularly moved around the site so that the birds do not trample the same place. Also, a metal mesh will protect your chickens from predatory animals and hawks.

The mesh can simply be folded into an arc, and the bottom edges are fastened either with wire or fishing line so that the arc does not unfold. Between themselves, individual fragments of the structure can be fastened with plastic clamps, or with the same wire or fishing line.

Strict chicken coop, reminiscent of a closet. Be sure to consider indoor lighting so that the chickens can fully use the space. The fact is that chickens almost do not see at dusk, remember the expression "night blindness". Therefore, always light the chicken coop.

Protozoa summer chicken coop hut for five chickens. Suitable for those summer residents who are interested in the process of interacting with a bird, rather than getting a large number of eggs.

A transparent chicken coop is a nest, but even it has perches. In general, a perch is an indispensable element of any, even the smallest chicken coop. Chickens, like any birds, love to sit on sticks, this is inherent in them by nature.

Just always make these sticks in one row, otherwise the stratification of society will flourish among chickens and weak individuals will be driven to the lower levels.

Would you like to have such a cute chicken coop in the country? Original, beautiful and practical!

Beautiful chicken coop with a walking area

An interesting example of a good chicken coop. The author did not make the building out of waste material, but came up with understanding and purchased new wood for the hens.

Of course, this is an option for giving, for the summer, for your own consumption. But first of all, we need an egg for ourselves.

Exit for chickens to the walking area.

External feeder and drinker.

Perch and inner feeder.

Nests for masonry.

More ideas

Well, two more beautiful chicken coops to complete the selection.

I hope that this material is enough for you to make the right decision about your chicken coop project. Build with pleasure, eat homemade eggs from your hens, sell the surplus, if any. Good luck!

Bonus video - budget chicken coop for 200 rubles

If you need a chicken coop, and there is extremely little money to purchase building materials, then after watching this video you will learn how you can make it practically for free from recycled materials.

In fact, in Europe, a passion for buildings made of waste materials is very common. There are even entire communities in which the authors share their buildings, and at the same time they sometimes look more beautiful than those in which a lot of money has been invested.

Mini-poultry farms built on personal plots are calculated for just such a number of individuals. A dozen laying hens is enough to provide an average family with an egg, to optimally equip the territory and not have problems with the owners of adjacent housing constructions. How to build a small chicken coop with your own hands, without deploying large-scale construction, will become the subject of conversation.

What to consider before construction

To those who are breeding poultry I haven't done it before so some clarification is needed. Building a chicken coop is easy. Anyone who is used to doing everything with their own hands, and not paying for the services of hired craftsmen, will be able to do this, especially since this building is not a residential building with its ceilings, internal walls, communications, and so on.

And if you focus on ready-made diagrams or drawings with all the indicated dimensions, then the work is greatly simplified. But it will only make sense if all technological operations performed meaningfully. What conditions need to be created for chickens so that they do not get sick and rush well?

The author specifically draws the attention of the reader to this. Knowing such nuances will help to remake any finished drawing at your own discretion, if the layout and dimensions of the designed chicken coop for some reason are not suitable for local conditions.

  • Humidity. The room should be moderately dry. A damp chicken coop is one of the main causes of poultry disease. So, it is necessary to think about how to properly organize ventilation.
  • Temperature (ºС). Optimal values: in winter - within 12, in summer - no more than 24 (its increase will sharply reduce the ability of chickens to rush).
  • Lighting. Birds love light, so you might want to consider installing a lamp in your coop. If in summer there is no great need for it, then in winter, when daylight hours are significantly reduced, artificial lighting will definitely be required. Taking into account the number of chickens (10) and the corresponding dimensions of the house, it is enough to place 1 light bulb at 60 - 75 watts in it.
  • Security. Firstly, from extraneous annoying sounds: chickens do not like noise. Secondly, from predators and rodents. The first, if they do not have time to strangle the chickens, then the laid eggs will be killed with big share probabilities. Rodents are no less dangerous, since they are the main carriers of infections from which chickens get sick and die.
  • Ability to move freely. For breeding chickens and providing conditions for good egg laying (there is such a term - egg production), one house is clearly not enough. We also need a small area for walking.

Now we can move on to the issue of building a chicken coop. As indicated - small, for 10 chickens.

Preparatory activities

Drafting

The experience of breeding chickens shows that for 10 individuals a house of 4 - 5 m² is enough. If possible, it is desirable to bring the area of the chicken coop to 6 - 7. Firstly, for different breeds of chickens - their own "standards", and secondly, if the livestock increases slightly, you will not have to redo something.

The chicken walk area should be located on the side of the house that is lit most of the day.

Location selection

You should be guided by the following requirements:

  • For 1 individual - at least 1 m² of walking area. Plus, the house itself.
  • The segment of the territory on which the chicken coop is being built should be well lit. Therefore, placing it in the shade of tall objects (houses, trees, solid fences) is not recommended.
  • When choosing a place for a chicken coop, you need to take into account the likelihood of flooding the house and the site with rain (melt) water. Based on this, they cannot be built in the lowlands.
  • It is advisable to locate the chicken coop as far as possible from residential buildings and roads: the bird needs peace and quiet.

On a note! When choosing a place, one should not forget about normative documents. According to SNiP (No. 30-02 of 1997), there must be at least 4 m between the chicken coop and the outer fence of the land plot.

Material selection

It is difficult to make recommendations on this point. Firstly, each owner always has in stock some material left over from building a house, a summer kitchen, a fence or something else. Secondly, an important detail is financial opportunities. But one piece of advice still will not be superfluous.

Metal cannot be used. Any other material (moreover, characterized by low thermal conductivity), but not "iron". It regularly, even during the day, changes temperature + constant condensation of moisture on the surface.

For a chicken coop, wood and is optimal. In the latter case - honeycomb sheets. They hold heat well and provide a constant microclimate in the building.

The process of building a chicken coop

markup

The dimensions of the chicken coop (house + playground) have already been said. If possible, the building should be positioned so that as much light as possible enters the windows.

Site preparation

  • It must be leveled, and so that a slight slope is obtained. This is necessary for the natural removal of water from the chicken coop during (and after) rainfall. You may have to think about the device on this segment of the drainage system section.
  • To protect against rodents from below, it is advisable to arrange a "barrier" (previously a small layer of soil is removed). Clay is taken, and glass cullet is added to it. This mass is laid out in a layer throughout the site.
  • From above it is desirable to pour expanded clay. It will provide additional insulation of the bottom (floor) of the chicken coop.

Foundation

With any construction, this is the most expensive stage. Given the small mass of the chicken coop, the optimal solution is a base or columnar type. It is not difficult to mount such a foundation with your own hands, and you don’t have to do bulky earthworks, damaging the root system of plantings.

Screw piles are simply screwed into the ground, and a head is mounted on each. With pillars it is somewhat more difficult - you have to drill holes. As supports, you can use pipes - metal or asbestos-cement. Since seasonal ground movements are not uncommon, they will have to be strengthened. Reinforcing bars are inserted inside the pipes (the central one should rise slightly for connection with the support frame) and concrete mortar is poured.

If we provide for the elevation of the chicken coop house above the ground, then this space will partially replace the area for walking the birds. It is enough to raise the building by about half a meter, and you can save space on the site.

small house

The process of erecting walls and ceilings (roofs) should not be described, since in fact it is a small box (frame) sheathed with boards. But there are some features that require more detailed consideration.

Door

In the lower part of the canvas (or on the side) there is always a hole for a bird (30 x 30 is enough) with a small threshold.

Window

The main requirement is that their total area must be at least 0.1 of the same floor parameter. And how many windows to put - 1 large or 3-4 small ones - the owner decides.

Walls

Regardless of the material, they need to be insulated. When choosing a heat insulator, you need to focus on its vapor permeability, otherwise dampness in the chicken coop cannot be avoided. From these positions, polystyrene (expanded polystyrene) disappears. As a rule, a layer of mineral wool is laid, and on top - sewing with a thin board or multilayer plywood. This is enough not to think about artificial heating of the chicken coop.

Floor

The principle is the same - double flooring, between the levels of which insulation is laid. Given the expanded clay bedding, it is enough to keep the chicken coop warm.

Roof

The optimal schemes are single or gable. Also - insulation and waterproofing.

Interior design

Ventilation

It can be both pipes and technological holes. But necessarily with the ability to regulate air flow. Their location: supply - in any far corner, exhaust - above the perch.

El/wiring

Only external, and in boxes. This is a typical requirement for all wooden buildings.

perches

Reiki, necessarily not just planed, but also polished. The height from the floorboards is about 75 cm. In a chicken coop for 10 individuals, one perch is small, therefore at least three are installed, at the same level, with an interval of half a meter. In such conditions, the chickens will not interfere with each other.

Laying nests

Enough one for 3 - 4 birds. Therefore, for 10 hens, four is enough. There are many options for their design, but the requirements are the same. Width and height - at least 35, but the depth is somewhat larger - about 40 (cm).

bedding

This is not only a convenience for laying hens, but also additional insulation of the chicken coop. Not only nests are covered, but also the floor in the room. Options - straw, sawdust, peat. The main thing is to change in a timely manner. Normal humidity and cleanliness are indispensable conditions for a comfortable stay for the inhabitants of the chicken coop.

Bird area

Its dimensions are already indicated. It is easy to equip - pillars around the perimeter +. What to consider? For more intensive removal of moisture from the territory, in addition to the slope of the site, it is necessary to take care of good absorption of liquid into the soil. Therefore, it cannot be concreted or “rolled” into asphalt. The best option- fill in PGS, only with small fractions of the filler. Chickens love to peck pebbles (for better digestion of food), so you should not use something else for "flooring".
