TC central children's world. Observation deck at the Central Children's Store on Lubyanka: how to get there and photos. How to get to the central "Children's World" on Lubyanka from the metro station "Lubyanka"

  • 06.04.2020

It would never have occurred to me to write an article on how to get to the Central Children's World on Lubyanka, if not for the case.
I saw a confused woman at the Ploshchad Revolyutsii metro station. She carefully studied the exit board to the city. And she couldn't decide which way to go.
As a guide, I offered to help myself. The answer was hesitant:
- Yes, I need to go to Detsky Mir. I have not been in the center for so long, I forgot everything. I think which way is more convenient to go?
I showed the lady the right escalator, got up with her, indicated the further direction of movement and realized that others needed to be helped.

Without wasting more words, I present a map where different routes from different metro stations are marked. I drew how to go to Detsky Mir (indicated by a yellow rectangle, at the top, in the northeast) from the metro station “Revolution Square”. The Metropol Hotel (landmark) is also marked with a yellow rectangle.

Below are the routes to Detsky Mir from the Kuznetsky Most and Teatralnaya metro stations.

(I'll attach larger diagrams below)
I am also enclosing a detailed guide, because subway stations do not always have the cherished sign “to the Children's World”. In which direction to go - you still have to guess!

1. How to get to the central "Children's World" on Lubyanka from the metro station "Lubyanka"

This is the most convenient and closest station to Detsky Mir. You don’t have to go up the street, at Lubyanka they opened an exit to the zero level of the children’s store.

At the metro station "Lubyanka" we are looking for an exit sign to the city, on Lubyanskaya, Novaya Square. The last item on the scoreboard is lit by the inscription: to “ Central Children's Store.

Goes up the escalator. There the road splits into two branches. On the left there are signs:

You already guessed that you SHOULD NOT go here! Turning RIGHT and go to the right arm of the tunnel. It opened recently, so nothing is written on it!

The pointer will tell you where to go.

Here is the entrance to the "Children's World". By the way, the left door is also open. 🙂

2. How to get to the central "Children's World" on Lubyanka from the metro station "Kuznetsky Most"

It takes two minutes to walk from Kuznetsky Most to Detsky Mir. Be careful! Do not look for the sign in the usual place, at the top. At the Kuznetsky Most station, the exit sign hangs on the wall!

But here it is clearly indicated that to the "Children's Store" - to the right.
We go up the escalator. We go outside and immediately turn LEFT. You need to go through the arch under the house. She can be seen from afar.

As soon as you come out of the arch onto Pushechnaya Street, you will immediately see the building of the “Children's World”. In the picture on the left - the corner of the "Children's World".

Go straight, just be careful, there are a lot of cars! The entrance to the "Children's World" from the side of Rozhdestvenka Street, it can be seen in the next picture.

I am attaching the itinerary again. The path from the Teatralnaya metro station is also marked on it.

3. How to get to the central "Children's World" on Lubyanka from the metro station "Teatralnaya"

It is easy to walk from the Teatralnaya metro station to Detsky Mir. This path will take about 7 minutes. (If you find yourself on Okhotny Ryad, I don’t advise you to go out, it’s better to get to Lubyanka along the red line).

At the station "Teatralnaya" you need to follow the signs to Theater Square, Okhotny Ryad and B. Dmitrovka streets, to the Bolshoi and Maly theaters, etc. This is where you need to go.

We go up the escalator, then up the stairs.

At the end there are two exits to the city, you need to turn right, to Theater Square and the Bolshoi Theatre.

Another staircase.

And you are upstairs, went to the Theater Square. On the left is the building of the Bolshoi Theatre. You need to go straight.

Feel free to cross the road at the crossing, there is no traffic on the square.

We cross Petrovka Street at the ground crossing, waiting for the green traffic light.

We crossed Petrovka, in the distance you will notice the building of the "Children's World" - in the picture - the second from the left.

4. How to get to the central "Children's World" on Lubyanka from the metro station "Revolution Square"

From the "Revolution Square" the distance to the "Children's World" is the same as from the "Teatralnaya". You need to go out in the direction of Revolution Square, Red Square, Manezhnaya Square, the Metropol Hotel.

Climb up the escalator and immediately turn RIGHT. Before leaving the glass doors there is another sign.

At the top you will see the square, in the distance to the left - the building of the Bolshoi Theater. Right in front of you is the hotel building.

We are going to him.

Turn left at the corner and follow the front of the hotel.

Department store "Children's World" on Lubyanka - the legendary children's store, a visit to which was the cherished desire of almost any Soviet child - and many post-Soviet ones. And although Detsky Mir itself on Lubyanka closed long ago, and a shopping and entertainment center has settled in its historic building, the bulk of the department store building on Lubyanka Square still evokes warm nostalgic feelings among Muscovites.

The building of the Central "Children's World" was built in 1953-1957 according to the project of the architect Alexey Dushkin in collaboration with architects I.M. Potrubach and G.G. Akvilev with the participation of engineer L.M. Gliere. The construction was personally supervised by Anastas Mikoyan, who at that time held the post of Minister of Trade of the USSR. The construction unfolded above the Dzerzhinskaya deep underground station (since 1990 - Lubyanka), where the Lubyansky passage, demolished specifically for the construction of a children's store. Interestingly, the foundations and vaulted cellars of the passage were included in the new building.

Central Department Store "Children's World" opened for visitors on June 6, 1957, becoming the largest children's store in the USSR: in fact, the building occupied an entire block on Lubyanka.

Stylistically, "Children's World" is located at the intersection of Stalinist classicism and minimalism of the 1960s, and during the construction the project was repeatedly changed, and a number of decor elements were not implemented due to the struggle against "architectural excesses". The facades are made in the form of large arcades with windows that complement the ensemble of Dzerzhinsky (Lubyanskaya) Square.

On the first 3 floors of the store there were large rooms with stands, which presented toys and children's goods produced by enterprises of the USSR, the rest of the floors were occupied by technical and office premises. In the central part there is a 2-tiered atrium, which later became the "face" of the store; later, a huge wall clock in the form of a hut and a carousel appeared here. Expensive and durable materials were used in the interior design, so the interior of the Central Children's World turned out to be truly chic: marble balustrades and columns, lamps made of cast iron and non-ferrous metals, oak doors and many other elements supported the solemn atmosphere of the store.

In 1997, the building of the department store became part of the protected area of the Moscow Kremlin ensemble and the protected cultural layer, and in 2005 it received the status of an object of cultural significance of regional significance.

Reconstruction of the Children's World building

In 2006, a complete reconstruction of the building was announced, but reconstruction began only in 2008. To the surprise of the public, it turned out that only the dimensions of the building and facades remained subject to protection; Despite numerous protests, "Children's World" was literally demolished from the inside: only the outer walls remained of the historical building, the interior space and interiors were completely lost. Initially, the renovated store was supposed to open in 2011, however, numerous scandals, cancellations and changes in projects, a change in the owner of the building and the developer company delayed the reconstruction.

In 2015, the reconstruction (Pavel Andreev eventually became the architect of the project) was completed, and a shopping and entertainment center was opened in the historical building of Detsky Mir "Central Children's Store on Lubyanka". The interiors of the building were partially recreated using preserved elements: lamps, balustrades, doors; the atrium has become higher and now rises to the entire height of the building, and the total area of the premises has increased from 58,000 square meters to 73,000. Despite fears, the shopping center in the building of the historical "Children's World" has retained its focus on children. In addition, a number of new attractions appeared in the building: a huge mechanical clock "Rocket", stained-glass windows with paintings by Ivan Bilibin, and .

Thus the building Central "Children's World" on Lubyanka after the reconstruction, it retained its external appearance, having lost the historical interiors in favor of adapting the premises for modern use.

The building of the Central Department Store "Children's World" on Lubyanka is located at Teatralny proezd, 5.

It can be reached on foot from metro stations. "Lubyanka" Sokolnicheskaya line and "Kuznetsky bridge" Tagansko-Krasnopresnenskaya.
