Adjust spacing between characters and words

The readability of text can be improved by adjusting the spacing between characters and words. When letters or words
are too close or too far apart, the text becomes difficult to read. CorelDRAW
provides various tools for managing spacing in text.

Character spacing
You can change the character spacing (also called letter spacing) in an entire block of text. For example,
a justified block of text can have excessive spacing between characters, creating
visual imbalance. To improve readability, you can reduce the spacing between characters.

Increased character spacing (left) makes text difficult to read.

Decreasing character spacing (right) improves readability.

To change the spacing between multiple characters, you need to adjust the kerning. additional information cm.
In chapter

Spacing between words
You can also adjust the spacing between words.

Decreasing the spacing between words makes it harder to read individual words in a paragraph

(left). Increasing the spacing between words (on the right) makes the paragraph easier to read.

The values by which the spacing is changed is the character spacing expressed in terms of
percent. Values in the field

Symbol can range from -100 to 2000%. All other values can be from 0

Set proportional text spacing with the Shape tool

You can change the spacing between paragraphs, which is useful for auto-fitting text. If the paragraph is
at the top or bottom of the frame, the spacing does not apply to the space between the paragraph text and the frame.

Line spacing in bulleted list (left) increased

by adjusting the spacing before and after the paragraph (right).

Working with text styles

CorelDRAW provides advanced styling features that allow you to quickly, easily, and
format the text of documents consistently. A style is a set of formatting attributes that define properties
object, such as artistic and paragraph text properties. For example, to set a character style, you can specify a font type,
font style and size, text and background color, character position, capitalization and more. For text, you can create

Text editing in this version has not undergone global changes, but there are some points that I will also consider here. The Corel graphics package gives us the ability to change the location of the text, scale, apply various visual effects and fills.

I will try to fit the main tools and capabilities of working with CorelDrawX7 text in this article.

(function(w, d, n, s, t) ( w[n] = w[n] || ; w[n].push(function() ( Ya.Context.AdvManager.render(( blockId: "R-A -269783-9", renderTo: "yandex_rtb_R-A-269783-9", async: true )); )); t = d.getElementsByTagName("script"); s = d.createElement("script"); s .type = "text/javascript"; s.src = "//an.yandex.ru/system/context.js"; s.async = true; t.parentNode.insertBefore(s, t); ))(this , this.document, "yandexContextAsyncCallbacks");

Curly and simple text.

Text in the CorelDraw graphics editor can be of two different types: curly and simple. Curly text is more flexible and convenient for artistic processing. Plain text is marked with boundaries that it cannot go beyond and is intended for the most part for large amounts of information.

At any time, we can change the text format from simple to curly and vice versa by right-clicking on our text and selecting “Convert to curly (plain) text” from the menu that appears, or by pressing Ctrl + F8.

To build curly text, we need to select the “Text” tool and left-click on the workspace. We have a cursor, and now we can enter characters to build our text.

I want to draw attention to the fact that we can select an area with this tool, and the text built in this area will not be curly, but simple. Those. it will be inscribed in the area we selected.

We cannot place simple text along a vector object, it is intended for large volumes text information. And curly, in turn, is more suitable for highlighting more significant and not so large information.

Change spacing in text.

You can change the spacing in the text either through the “Text Properties” side menu (Ctrl + T), or using the “Shape” tool (F10). I prefer the second option.

The Shape tool gives us additional options for editing text. When we select this tool, we see that a marker appears under each letter (a white square, which, if selected, becomes black), and arrows appear in the right and left corners to change the distance between characters, as shown in the figure.

Stretching our text using these arrows, while holding down the Shift key, we increase only the distance between words, and holding down Ctrl only works with kerning. Similarly, you can edit both curly and plain text.

Text fill.

Changing the text fill options in CorelDrawX7 is a real innovation. Now we can fill text with texture, gradient, bitmap and vector images. In this case, again, the conversion of the text is not required.

Text wrapping.

In order for our image not to overlap on top of the text and not to be covered by it, we need to place it on top of the text and right-click to select the “Wrap with plain text” item. You can edit the text wrapping parameters using the icon I highlighted in red in the picture.

Text effects.

Effects with text in corel is a separate topic for a long article.

Compared to earlier versions in CorelDrawX7, we can apply effects without compromising textual information. Now we don't have to convert the text to curves.

In addition to transparency effects, we can apply lens, shell, bevel, extrude, and even blend effects. What can I say, practically any effects that were previously available only for vector curves, we can now apply to text and then format this text by correcting punctuation marks or grammatical errors in it.

An unprecedented luxury for inattentive designers).

I will give some effects with the text below.

Shell effect.

The "flow" effect.

The text in the container.

In order to place text in a container, we need a vector object that acts as this very container, it can be a star, an ellipse, an arbitrary rectangle, or any other closed vector object. After we have found a container for our text, we select a text creation tool (Fig_2).

When hovering over our container, the cursor transforms, thus giving us the ability to create the text enclosed in the container.

The advantages of the text enclosed in a container, in a simple editing of the boundaries of the container. By changing the shape of our container, we edit the boundaries of the text placement.

Font Application window.

This innovation allows you to select and view different fonts in a separate window. Here we can change the words typed in these fonts and immediately see the changes.

You can call this window from the top menu "Text" by selecting the "apply font" tab.

If earlier we had to work with text on a sheet, now we can type any word or expression in this window, select any number of typefaces to display, and then take the spelling we like and simply pull it out of this window into the workspace. Very good, I would say.

Cancel transformations.

No matter how we rotate and scale the text in any proportions, we can always undo the transformations by going to the menu “Arrange > Transforms > Undo Transforms”. This feature works for more than just text.

Convert text to curves.

After we have finished formatting our text, we need to prepare our file for printing and the first step is to convert the text into a vector object. For this:

1. Select the text using the "Selection Tool".

2. Go to the menu: “Arrange > Convert to Curve” or press “Ctrl + Q”.

This stage should be final, because after that we will not be able to format the text. Usually I leave a file with text, and for printing I save another one of the same, but with converted, curved text. If you need to slightly modify the layout, then you do not have to enter all the text again.

(function(w, d, n, s, t) ( w[n] = w[n] || ; w[n].push(function() ( Ya.Context.AdvManager.render(( blockId: "R-A -269783-10", renderTo: "yandex_rtb_R-A-269783-10", async: true )); )); t = d.getElementsByTagName("script"); s = d.createElement("script"); s .type = "text/javascript"; s.src = "//an.yandex.ru/system/context.js"; s.async = true; t.parentNode.insertBefore(s, t); ))(this , this.document, "yandexContextAsyncCallbacks");

Text import.

It is possible to import text from various text editors: Word, Excel, etc. But sometimes a compatibility pack is required.

In order to import text, we need to select in the top menu: “File > Import”. Then select the text file and click "Import".

I want to say that often the import of text is not necessary, it is enough to select the text and use the standard technique “Ctrl + C” and “Ctrl + V” to copy-paste the desired text.

In conclusion, I would like to give a few simple tips when working with text.

1. Be careful, always re-read what you wrote before converting the text and sending it to print.

2. Save working files with converted and non-converted text.

3. At the initial stages, try to refrain from using gradient fills, shadows and other visual effects when working with a large amount of text. In the first paragraph “Text Properties” (Ctrl + T) we can adjust the alignment parameters, line spacing, kerning.

Tabs. Allows you to edit the depth of nested text.

Columns. This option allows us to adjust the number and width of columns, as well as the spacing between columns. A good alternative to the typographic grid.

Markers. We can edit the properties of the bulleted list: change the type of the marker, change the distance from the marker to the text border and from the marker to the text.

Initial letter. Change the settings for the first letter in a paragraph.

Font application. window for preview and quick font selection.

Edit text. A text formatting window pops up.

Insert a symbol. Here I think everything is clear: these are the possibilities for inserting non-standard icons such as a copyright sign or an Arabic letter.

Insert formatting characters. This menu will help us to insert characters such as em dash, en dash, non-breaking hyphen, etc.

Convert… Convert curly text to plain text and vice versa.

Service symbols. Menu for working with service symbols.

Plain text. Here we can turn on and off the display of frames for plain text, as well as change other options for the text.

Text along the path. With text selected, allows us to select a curve to place the text along the curve.

Straighten text. We straighten the incorrectly edited text by us.

Align. Aligning the text that has been expanded by mistake.

Align to baselines. The text snaps to the baselines of the document.

Use transfers. We can use transfers.

Options. A function for setting transfer options.

Spell checker. Spelling, grammar, thesarius, etc.

Register. Displays a window for editing the register.

Prepare the text for publication on the Internet. It does something creepy with the text, although nothing seems to be happening to it ... A very strange button.

Encode. Change character encoding.

In the case of plain text, the Paragraph tab of the Format Text dialog box displays additional elements controls (Fig. 4.18).

Rice. 4.18. Paragraph tab of the Format Text dialog box for plain text

The Settings button opens a dialog box with Max counters. word spacing (Maximum spacing between words), Min. word spacing (Minimum spacing between words) and Max. char spacing (Maximum spacing between characters). These counters allow you to more flexibly control text alignment in Full justify (Width) and Force justify (Full width alignment) modes, adjusting the text layout density (Fig. 4.19).
- The group of counters Spacing (Intervals) includes counters Before paragraph (Before the paragraph) and After paragraph (After the paragraph), which allow you to create gaps between paragraphs, called in the printing industry otpravleniya. When working with plain texts of large volumes, the values of these attributes are selected together with other attributes in the process of printing layout adjustment to achieve the greatest readability. By default, the spacing before a paragraph is set to normal line spacing, and after a paragraph it is set to zero.

Rice. 4.19. Spacing controls for plain text in an auxiliary dialog box

The Hyphenation Settings button opens an auxiliary dialog box, the elements of which control word wrapping (Fig. 4.20).

Rice. 4.20. Hyphenation Settings Dialog Box

The Use automatic hyphenation checkbox enables automatic hyphenation of plain text words (off by default) and makes other dialog box controls available.
- Checkbox Break capitalized (Break uppercase) turns off the mode of prohibition on the transfer of words typed in uppercase, which is enabled by default.
- The Hot zone counter sets the width of the hot zone - the strip adjacent to the right border of the plain text frame. If the word does not fit into a line during layout, then the automatic hyphenation mode checks where the beginning of this word is located. If it falls within the hyphenation zone, the entire word is moved to the next line. If the beginning of a word is to the left of the hyphenation zone, an attempt will be made to hyphenate it.
The narrower the hyphenation zone, the more lines ending with a hyphen, and the denser the words in the lines.
- Counter Min. word length (Minimum word length) sets the minimum number of characters in a word that can be wrapped (default is six characters).
- Counters Min. characters before (Minimum number of characters before) and Min. characters after (The minimum number of characters after) set the minimum number of characters of a word that can remain on the line, respectively, before and after the hyphen.

The group of counters Indents (Indents) allows you to set indents and paragraph indents.
- Counter Left (Left) sets the amount of left indentation - the distance from the left edge of the plain text frame to the vertical line along which the first characters of the paragraph lines are aligned (except for the first, the alignment of which is set separately).
- Counter Right (Right) sets the value of the right indentation - the distance from the right edge of the plain text frame to the vertical line along which the last characters of the paragraph lines are aligned (except for the first, the alignment of which is set separately).
- Counter First line (First line) sets the amount of left indentation for the first line of the paragraph. Consistently adjusting the values of the left indent and the left indent for the first line, you can control the amount of indentation - the offset of the first character of the first line of the paragraph relative to the line of the left indent.
The values contained in the counters of the Indents group (Indents) can only be positive, but it should be borne in mind that the corresponding distances are always measured from the edge of the frame to its middle.

section 6 . Working with text in CorelDraw

Topic: Working with text in CorelDraw

Purpose of the lecture:learn how to type and edit text in CorelDraw.

Lecture plan:

Types of text

There are two types of text in Corel Draw - artistic and simple. Artistic text can be modified like any graphic object, and it does not cease to be text, even after applying effects. However, most of the automatic editing tools do not work with such text. Simple text can only be filled with color and placed inside the outline. At the same time, automatic hyphenation and spell checking are possible for it. In this regard, HEADINGS, SLOGANS, SHORT NOTICEABLE INSCRIPTIONS are usually made out in ARTISTIC TEXT. TABLES, LISTS and other text, consisting of an impressive number of printed characters, are drawn up in plain text.

Tools

For typing, use the TEXT tool (on the panel it looks like the letter [A]). To type ARTISTIC, click the mouse anywhere on the screen. If you need to type SIMPLE text, use the same tool to draw a rectangle inside which the text will be placed. A dotted frame will appear on the screen with an inviting text entry cursor. The frame is a separate object, however it will be invisible when viewed unless it is filled with text. Any letter, even consisting of very thin lines, is a contour, not a set of segments. Therefore, changing the color of the text is done using the fill tool.

To change the distance between letters in Corel (when such a question arises, they usually mean the distance between characters horizontally - KERNING, or the distance between the baselines of two adjacent lines vertically - LEADING). So, to change these parameters and increase / decrease the line or letter spacing in Corel Draw, for example, it was enough to select the tool<текст>[A] and, having selected your inscription, press RMB (right mouse button). In the menu that appears, select<свойства текста>and then in the window that opens, find the tab where, in fact, it was possible to change the necessary parameters (both in% in relation to the font size, and in numerical, corresponding to the size of the point size). In Corel Draw, line and letter spacing change in the tab<текст><форматирование>.

Text Effects

Below are the most commonly used text effects.

In addition to the color itself, the text can be filled with an ornament, gradient, texture (select the GRADIENT, ORNAMENT or TEXTURE tool from the FILL tool group).

You can make text transparent to varying degrees using the INTERACTIVE TRANSPARENCY tool (colloquially, a shot glass).

In order to create a three-dimensional text, you must first fill the letters with color, and then use the EFFECTS / EXTRUDE command.

In the PUSH effect menu you can adjust (in order of tabs): PERSPECTIVE TYPE, ROTATION, LIGHT POSITION, SHADOW COLOR and OBJECT FRONT BEVE (last tab). Even after using the extrude effect, the text does not turn into lines. To change it, just select the TEXT tool and click on one of the letters.

The BLEND effect performs a smooth transition from one label to another. To get the effect, you need to create a text, fill it with the desired color. Then duplicate it, and move the duplicate to the distance you need from the original, reduce it and fill it with another shade. Then you need to select both inscriptions and use the command EFFECTS / FLOW (EFFECTS / BLEND). In the FLOW effect menu, you can set (in the order of the tabs): NUMBER OF STEPS (number of intermediate objects, 20 by default), ROTATION ANGLE OF OBJECTS, SHAPE OF COLOR TRANSITION.

Formatting and editing text

It is more convenient to edit text directly in a graphic document, sometimes it can be quite difficult to do. If you have applied some effects to the text, you can edit it in a special dialog. By selecting the text object and clicking the "Edit Text" button of the panel property bar (Property panel), you will open the text editing dialog (Fig. 1). Working in this dialog is no different from working with a simple text editor.

Fig.1. Text editing dialog

Enter and edit text, select fragments and change their formatting using the buttons located at the top of the dialog. You can paste text from a document created with a text editor. Click the button Insert (Insert) and the file open dialog will appear on the screen. In it, you can select a file in the format of one of the common text editors. As a result, your file will be inserted into an editable text object. When finished editing and formatting the text, click the OK button in the dialog to return to the main mode of working with a graphic document. As already noted, the easiest way to format text using the panel property bar (Property panel), which, when working with text, contains formatting buttons. Additional options for text formatting can be obtained in a special dialog (Fig..2), which is called using the "Format Text" button of the panel property bar (Properties panel). This dialog contains several tabs that allow you to customize character and paragraph formatting, set tab stops and text column sizes, and apply some text effects.

Rice. 2. Character Formatting

If the padlock button at the bottom of the dialog is pressed and a closed padlock is drawn on it, formatting changes will take effect as soon as values are entered in the dialog fields. Pressing the lock button will change the pattern on it. Now the lock is open. In this case, press the button apply (Apply) after changing the formatting for the changes to take effect. You can change the formatting of multiple objects by selecting them and setting different formatting. In this case, the dialogue remains open. To close the dialog, click the OK button. On the first tab of the dialog, character formatting is configured (Fig. 2). On this tab, you can select the font, its size and style, as well as the language profile to use. The fields on the right side of the dialog allow you to use more original formatting methods. In the lists Underline (Underline), Sinkethru (strikethrough) and over-line (Overline) selects the type of line to be placed under text, in line with text, or above text, respectively. Use of thin and thick, single and double lines is available. You can underline both the entire text, including spaces, and only words. You can use multiple lines at the same time, for example by placing a thin double line below the text and a single thick line above the text. By clicking the button located to the right of any list, you can adjust the thickness and position of the lines. Listed upper case (Case) can be set to small caps or all caps. Listed Position (Position) superscript and subscript are selected. These features are also available in text editors. At the bottom of the dialog are fields that can be used to perform formatting that is not available to text editors. To make these fields available, you must select one or more characters in the text. Next, you can set the vertical and horizontal offset, as well as the rotation angle for the selected characters. By rotating and shifting individual characters, as well as using underline and overline at the same time, you can get unusual text formatting that is only possible in CorelDRAW (Fig. 3)

Fig.3. Single character formatting example

Paragraph formatting is configured on the second tab of the dialog (Fig. 4). Some fields are only available when formatting plain text. For example, you can't set indents for artistic text.

Fig.4. Paragraph formatting

In the Alignment list (Alignment) Selects one of the alignment methods. Some alignment options allow additional customization. The settings dialog is called by the button located next to it. Settings (Settings). Pushing a button Hyphenation Settings (Hyphenation settings), you can set up automatic word hyphenation in the dialog that appears. In the field group Spacing (Spacing) sets the spacing between adjacent characters, between words and lines, and before and after a paragraph. In the field group Indents (Indents) sets the indents on the right and left. By setting the indentation of the first line, you will get the effect of the red line. All these indents and intervals allow you to format large fragments of text no worse than in a powerful text editor. Tab positions are placed on the next tab of the dialog (Fig. 5). You can add, remove tabs. You can also change the position of any tab stop. With conveniently placed tab stops, it's easy to create large lists.

Fig.5. Tab setting

Plain text in CorelDRAW can be arranged in multiple columns. Multi-column text is commonly used in newspapers and magazines. If you want to create an illustrated brochure with CorelDRAW, you will need this editor feature. You can set the number and width of columns on the next tab of the formatting dialog (Fig.6).

Fig.6. Setting up columns of text

In the field Number of columns (Number of columns) sets the number of columns in the text. If you check the box Equal column width (Equal column width), columns of equal width will be created, unchecking the box, you can set different widths for different columns. The width is set in the fields located in the center of the dialog. In the right part of the dialog there is a figure showing an approximate view of the text arranged in several columns. Listed vertical justification (Vertical Alignment) Sets the vertical alignment of regular text with respect to the frame. It does not depend on the number of columns. Of particular note is full justification, in which the frame is filled with text from start to finish. This is achieved by increasing line spacing. If you have too little text and a lot of empty space, it is not recommended to align it this way. On the last tab of the text formatting settings dialog, the effects of the drop cap and the bulleted list are configured (Fig. 7). You can select the desired effect from the list located at the top of the dialog.

Fig.7. Drop cap and bulleted lists

By selecting the drop cap effect, you can set the number of lines that a capital letter takes up at the beginning of a paragraph. In addition, the distance of the letter from the rest of the text is set. You can also select one of two effect options. They are illustrated with pictures in the lower right part of the dialog. If you have chosen to use a bulleted list, then in the field Font (Font) must select a font, and in the field symbol (Character) - The specific character to use as the marker. The remaining fields specify the character size, its offset, and the distance to the body text. In addition, you can choose one of two options for bulleted lists, represented by explanatory figures in the lower right part of the dialog. The described formatting and editing options are not original. They can be found in most text editors. CorelDRAW has other text tools, such as spell checking. Wrong words are underlined with a red wavy line when you type. Also works in CorelDRAW and the AutoCorrect tool. You can easily master the tools for working with text if you are familiar with at least one text editor. And we will continue to explore the possibilities inherent exclusively in the graphics editor CorelDRAW.

Placing text along a curve

Graphics editor CorelDRAW lets you place artistic text on any given curve - a straight or curved line, a rectangle, an ellipse, a star, a polygon, another letter, or a line of text. You can only place text on a single line along a curve. If you try to place text on multiple lines, all newlines will be removed. Use the Ellipse Tool to create an ellipse. Select the "Text Tool" in the toolbar Toolbox (Graphic arts). Move the mouse pointer to the top point of the ellipse outline. The pointer will then change its appearance. Click and a text cursor will appear above the ellipse outline. Now you can enter artistic text. Select from the list of panel fonts property bar (Properties panel) font arial, or another font that supports Russian letters. Enter some words. The text will automatically be placed along the outline of the ellipse (Fig. 8).

Fig.8. Text placed along an ellipse

If you need to place existing text along a curve, then you should use a slightly different technique. Draw another ellipse and create a line of artistic text in the free space. Select the created ellipse and curly text using the "Pick Tool". Select a menu command Text Fill Text to Path (Text Text along curve). The text will be placed along the curve, as in the previous case. Regardless of how the text is placed along the curve, you can edit and format it like any other text object. You can also change the placement of text relative to the curve using the panel controls. property bar (Properties panel). Let's take a closer look at these elements. In the first panel list on the left Property Bar (Properties panel) you can select one of the presets, which describes a lot of text layout options. By selecting a preset, you will greatly change the appearance of the text. The remaining fields allow you to customize the appearance of the text manually. In the second panel list property bar (Property bar) options for the orientation of the letters in relation to the curve are located. The illustrations in the list explain each option:"Text Orientation" rotates letters along a curve,"Text Orientation" shifts text vertically on the curved part of the curve. The shift increases with the slope of the curve. Option"Text Orientation" shifts text horizontally on the curved part of the curve. Option"Text Orientation" keeps characters vertical as long as the text string follows the curve. The third list defines the vertical placement of the text in relation to the curve. Variant drawings are clear without comment: "Vertical Plasiment". Another option allows you to manually move the text perpendicular to the curve. A list with "Text Placiment" items appears in the panel property bar (Property bar) when you place text on closed curves. With the help of this list, you can determine the location of the closed path where the text will be located. To place text on the opposite side of the curve while maintaining all other settings, click the "Place On Other Side" button. Try changing the text placement with the panel controls property bar (Properties panel) (Fig.9).

Fig.9. Options for placing text along an ellipse

Fig.10. Moving text

You can also move text in a direction perpendicular to the curve interactively as follows. Select with the Pick Tool the text object that was placed along the curve. Since the text is already linked to the curve, you must press the Ctrl key and then, without releasing the key, click on the text object to select it. Move the mouse pointer to the crosshair, which is located in the center of the object. The pointer will change to another one. While pressing and holding the left mouse button, move the mouse pointer up. A connecting line will appear, with one end set to a curve and the other end connected to the text. This line allows you to set the distance at which the text will be located from the curve. You can move the text to the desired location above or below the curve. If you stop moving the mouse and do not release the left button, then an exact copy of the curve with text will appear at the end of the connecting line. This copy is the reference line of the text and shows where the text will be placed relative to the curve (Fig.10). Release the mouse button and the text will move to its new position. You can also move the text by setting numerical values in the fields located on the right side of the panel property bar (Properties panel). Select the Pick Tool, press the Shift key, and without releasing it, click on the outline of the ellipse. You have selected two objects again and you can continue experimenting with text placement. Now we will separate the text from the ellipse. Select a menu command Arrange Break Text Apart (Mount/Separate text). Although outwardly nothing has changed, the text is no longer associated with the ellipse. Select only text. To do this, click on an empty space to deselect it, and then click on the text. Select a menu command Straighten Text (Text/ Straighten Text) and the text will return to its original form. Using the "Frehand Tool" draw an arbitrary open curve. Select the drawn curve and artistic text and select the menu command Text Fill Text to Path (Text along curve). The text is now placed along the open curve and in the third panel list property bar (Property bar) you can select the position of the text relative to the curve. You can place the text at the beginning of the curve, in the center, or at the end of the curve. Select in the third panel list property bar (Properties panel) various options. The text alignment will change according to your choice. If you change the shape of the curve along which the text is placed, the text will automatically change its position. Select the "Shape Tool" and reshape the curve. When the changes are complete, the text will automatically fit along the new curve. Using the Pick Tool, select the text and the curve. Select a menu command Arranged Break Text Apart (Montage Separate text). Now the text and the curve are not connected. Select only the curve and delete it. The appearance of the text has remained unchanged, although the curve it was placed on is missing. Next, we'll continue transforming artistic text.

Changing the arrangement of text characters

With the "Shape Tool" you can change the spacing between adjacent characters. This operation is called kerning. Kerning can be applied to both regular and artistic text. Kerning moves adjacent characters closer or further apart. Create an artistic text object. To select characters for kerning, select the Shape Tool. You will notice that small outline squares or nodes will appear next to each symbol (Figure 11). To select the characters you want to move, you need to select those nodes. The control arrows are also used to adjust spacing.

Rice. 11. Changing the placement of artistic text characters

Place the mouse pointer on the node to the left of the symbol you want to move, and then, by pressing and holding the left mouse button, move the mouse pointer to a new position. Symbols will be shifted together with the mouse pointer (Fig. 11,). You can select multiple nodes and move them together. To kern a line of text using the control arrows, drag the corresponding arrow with the mouse. When using the arrow, the spacing between all characters of the text will change, and when using the arrow, they will change the spacing between lines. Editing text object nodes with the Shape Tool is similar to working with other types of object nodes, and you can use the tricks we described earlier. Select the Pick Tool. The text object will be highlighted. Select a menu command Text/Straighten Text (Text/Straighten Text). The text will return to its original form. Similar team Text Align/To Baseline (Text/Align to Baseline) only aligns the text to the baseline, that is, cancels all vertical character offsets. A reference line is an imaginary line along which all characters in a line of text are aligned. Team Text/Straighten Text (Text/Straighten Text) also reverses the horizontal offsets and rotations of individual characters.
