Spring is, of course, a joy - the sun is shining, the grass is turning green. And who brings it? Our ancestors believed that spring was brought by birds. So the girls and women made a special ritual doll, which was also used in the calls of spring - the Bird-Joy. The official dates for making this doll are March 21 and 22, when night and day compete, but you can extend these dates to the end of March.

You will need:

  • white natural fabric;
  • natural fabric from any home textile;
  • fabrics of other colors (preferably natural);
  • red threads (preferably woolen);
  • optional threads of other colors (also woolen);
  • scissors;
  • needle.

Inside this doll is the so-called twist. It is done simply: choose a piece of fabric the length of your palm and such a width that it could be the body of the future pupa and serve as its support.

Gently twist from left to right, in the direction of the sun.

Bandage the resulting roller in two places - the neck and waist

The resulting twist will be, respectively, with your palm

Next, you need to make the head, handles and chest. We do all this from one element: a piece of white fabric, square, the size of a palm on a palm. Place a piece of cotton wool, the size of the desired head, in the center of this piece.

Tie the neck of the doll with red thread, in three turns and fix with three knots

Then we make the chest. To do this, we also use cotton wool, which we push under the “shirt” and tie it under the chest with a thread - again three turns and tie it with three knots. Please note that you need to wind again in the direction of the Sun.

Check at the same time the stability of the chrysalis - it should already be standing
The next step is, of course, the skirt. We measure the length necessary for your doll (“the legs should not stick out and the hem should not drag along the ground)

Tie the skirt on the inside

And spread on the doll

Add an apron and a belt. I made it unconventionally, from circles - this is how the doll asked

No self-respecting married woman would leave home earlier without a headscarf. And our festive beauty, of course, too

Trying on a scarf. We place it on the head and fix it on the neck with a thread.
Then you can choose two options for fixing the scarf.
"Beak"

Birdie.

Many fairy tales, songs, legends and traditions are composed in the Russian people about birds. This is a bright image associated with heaven, a bright paradise - Iriy, with the Sun and winds. It is not for nothing that the folk costume resembles a bird in silhouette: wide sleeves, like wings, bright decorations and embroideries on the chest and belt, a headdress - like a tuft of a bird. Ornaments and amulets in the form of birds adorned the architraves of houses, roof ridges. There are many legendary fairy-tale images associated with birds: a falcon and a stork, a dove and a rooster, an eagle and a duck...

In legends and tales, birds often guard the borders of their native land, help people, and often the heroes themselves turn into birds, such as, for example, Finist the Clear Falcon.

In ancient amulets, the symbol of the World Tree was often used - this is a tree, usually a Christmas tree, without fail with a bird on top. Its roots go underground, the trunk and hollow are in the world of people, and the branches are in the sky.

The bird is an ancient image of Spirit and Soul.

Known and legendary, as well as fabulous birds- for example, the bird Sirin, Gamayun, the Firebird.

There are holidays, the main character of which is birds. This, for example, is the Magpie holiday, which is celebrated in March. "On Magpies day and night are compared."

"Winter ends, spring begins." The Slavs had a belief that on this day from warm countries forty arrive different birds, and the first of them is a lark.

Both for this holiday and for games, you can make a bird from a bright piece of fabric. Traditionally, birds are made small, you can make a lot of them and hang them in different parts of the house.

Scheme for making a bird doll

Rice. 1. Take a square piece of fabric measuring 7 - 9 cm. Fold it diagonally, you get a triangle.

Rice. 2-5. Put it with an acute angle down, and fold the edges inward (toward yourself), you get a square. Fold the edges in again.

Rice. 6. And now bend in half - we got a narrow triangle, similar to an airplane, which we fold out of paper. After we take the thread and rewind the sharp end with two turns - this is the nose of the bird. We fasten and break the thread.

Rice. 7. Straighten the fabric, fully unfolding it. We lift the edge and put a piece of rags inside, the size of a pea, forming the head of a bird. Again we wrap and fasten with a loop, we do not break the thread.

Rice. 8. Now we straighten the corners of the fabric outward - we get the head of a bird and spread wings. Again we bend the edge of the fabric and put inside a ball of rags with polka dots (or a little more). It turns out the body of a bird.

Fig.9-10. We draw the thread along the body of the bird and wrap the tail with two turns, then we go obliquely to the head of the bird, passing the thread along the neck, return to the tail, trace the tail and on the other side we pass to the neck, and return to the tail, we get a cross on the back of the bird. After we pass the thread, pulling together each wing. To do this, we continue with the same thread, we lead from the tail around the wing, winding it, draw the thread along the tail and wrap the second wing. Fasten with a loop on the tail.

"Bird of Joy" - a doll of the spring rite associated with the arrival of spring. The ceremony was held in March. Married women participated in it - they were the main participants in the ceremony, but girls could also participate. Women dressed in bright, elegant clothes. Especially decorated with headdresses in the form of birds. There was a belief that if a bird sat on a woman's head, shoulder or arm, she would be happy and successful all year. Birds were an invariable attribute of the rite of "invocation" of spring. Our ancestors believed that birds bring happiness and good luck. It was believed that the birds carry with them the keys to HAPPINESS, warmth and LIGHT!

The traditional folk doll "Bird - joy" does not leave anyone indifferent. Miniature birds give a special charm to the female image. A cute kind doll will be a gift or home decoration. It makes a person kinder. You will get a lot of pleasure from work.

Doll "Bird Joy" - a doll of the spring rite associated with the arrival of spring. It was believed that birds bring spring on their wings. In the first days of spring, married women - they were the main participants in the ceremony, but girls could also participate, went out of the village and called Spring. Women dressed in bright, elegant clothes.

There was a belief that if a bird sat on a woman's head, shoulder or arm, she would be happy and successful all year. It was believed that birds carry with them the keys to happiness, warmth and light.

The bird-joy helps a woman understand her purpose and feel her attractiveness: it is important to separate the concept of “beauty” from the ability to attract - in a special way to charge the surrounding space with itself and its condition, into which people are attracted - men, women, children's souls. This is a special skill of a woman - to give a man something that gives him confidence, peace, a sense of self-importance, significance, dominance, and ask him in return for protection, love, tenderness, generosity. And this doll also turns time to spring, and life - to joy.

Step 20. We tie the side ends of the scarf to the neck with a red thread. In this case, the rear end is not captured.

Step 21 Now we tie the back end of the scarf at the back of the head, we get the “tail” of the bird.

Step 22. Straighten the scarf. It turns out a bird covering the doll's head with its wings.

Bring to us

Summer is warm

Take away from us

Winter is on you

And we are summer!

You have a sled, and we have a cart!

Larks - voles

Fly to us

I'm flying warm!

We are tired of winter

We ate all the bread

Killed all the cattle.

Spring, Spring, red!

Come, Spring, with joy!

With joy, with great mercy!

With a large flax, with a deep root,

With great bread

Spring, Spring, what did you fit on?

On what approached, drove up?

On a bipod, on a harrow,

On the broom.
